Well, so much for a new cartoon. Guess X-Men '97 didn't do that well.
It's more likely that the current new Spider-Man cartoon on Disney+ was already set in stone ahead of time and they don't want to have two new Spider-Man cartoons unrelated to each other out at the same time.

To be fair, we even know how Peter finds Mary Jane since the writer has since shared the script. It involves Victorian London, Jack the Ripper, and the circus. I'd be okay with them just making up a new story, honestly.
