The hands are painted blue, screwing up the tolerances. I shaved a little bit off the insides with a knife and it helped.
I already disliked the modern trend of having the energon ax fit over Prime's hand like a dumb glove, but now it feels like they're making fun of me.
it really doesn’t help how dark the blue is and how clear the axe is.

I prefer the axe as a regular hand-held weapon. Aside from skirting the issue of what to do with the hand, it also feels more like he picked it up because he had to fight, not because he's a former dockworker/archivist/whatever that just happens to have a giant axe in his arm in case of especially aggressive paperwork.

As a Dock Worker an Axe would likely be a tool, rather then a weapon.

"And now, light our darkest-Ah, whatever, you know, forget the Matrix, I'm just gonna hit Megatron a few time with an axe and see if that does anything..."
-In that part of the multiverse, the war didn't actually last very long at all, though the litigation over the assault charges DID take the remainder of the four million years.

That Prime is actually the one that's worked the best for my nephew, out of all the insane numbers he has. But the axe and guns didn't fit on his copy either, I sanded the fists inside to fix the issue.

I just assumed the axe was something he got when he became a Prime.

Yeah, like, going by "War Dawn", Orion Pax and Optimus Prime had two completely different bodies before the former was reconstructed into the latter.
