On the upside I just picked up my last minute no tariff free US shipping Hydrophant from the Post Office. Yay. If it wasn't for the Tarrif thing and De Minimis ending I would definitely order from Suruga-ya again.

-ZacWilliam, good service and free US shipping was hard to beat.

Hmm, curious about my order. It shipped BEFORE the de minimis ended, but is still en route to the U.S.

Am I grandfathered in? Or does it only matter that they hit customs after de minimis ended?

I preordered wave 2 as well, but that doesn't ship for a while, so I'm kinda (most likely foolishly) hopeful that all this nonsense is behind us by then?

It counts when they hit customs. Right now, a lot of shippers are gambling that the tariffs will be rolled back before the ship arrives, but even more aren't...the port of Seattle is basically empty right now.

So, Takara posted on YouTube a diorama story for the first-wave Wild King toys, but also geoblocked it for every part of the world outside of Japan.

Luckily, Transformers multimedia archivist Walruslaw of TFRaw has gotten himself a hold of the video and uploaded to his archive on Google Drive for all to see and enjoy.

I may have snuck in just under the wire. Tracking shows that the package passed through customs on Friday and is making it's way through the US delivery system without me having to pay anything extra.

Turns out there was a thing called the De Minimis exception. It was a loop hole where nothing under $800 value was being charged tarrif fees because it was too small potatoes to bother with the paperwork and such.

So that's why me and others ordering Wild King didn't get charged.

Bad News: Supposedly the government has closed the loophole as of yesterday. So I havnt tried but I assume anyone trying to order them now should get tarrif hits.

-ZacWilliam, it's apparently very bad news for aliexpress, temu and the like. Not to mention shoppers in general.

Yeah, I’d heard about the de minimis and it ending. I haven’t ordered anything from overseas this past week because of that. (I just wish I’d known about the Amazon Japan Wild King situation a little sooner!)

I’m real curious to see how it plays out going forward. I’m expecting the worst. No more Takara toys for me for the foreseeable future. I’ve got some stuff on pre order I don’t think I’ll ever see.

I can’t find a lot on the internet regarding tariffs and individual buyers. I saw one Reddit post about headphones or some kind of audio equipment (above $800) that someone got charged tariffs for. I guess we’ll be seeing more chatter in the coming weeks.

It should be specified that the de minimis exemption ending is only for goods with a country of origin of China or Hong Kong. (Note that 'country of origin' here does not refer to where a product was shipped from, but where it was manufactured. So Made in China product shipped from Japan: No more de minimis, you gotta pay those 145% tariffs. Made in Japan product shipped from Japan under $800: De minimis still applies, no tariffs. Made in Japan product shipped from Japan over $800: Over the limit, you gotta pay the 10% tariff. Made in China product shipped within the US of A?: No tariffs because it's already in the country, tariffs only apply to products entering through customs).

Admittedly, I don't know where the Wild King toys are manufactured but assuming they are like all modern Transformers toys which are now manufactured in Vietnam, then the de minimis exemption would still apply. (For now - the government is 'officially' planning on ending it for all countries in the future but who the hug knows with this admin they change their mind every week)

Takara-made Transformers toys intended for sale in Japan are manufactured in China.

Thoughts about Hydrophant after fiddling with him for an afternoon.

1) He's a really great toy.

2) Robot mode is very poseable and solid. Joints are tight (elbows are almost too tight).

3) His robot mode reminds me of the best Beast Wars/Machines era Basics. Just a really good small robot.

4) Beast mode is good but he is a (cute) tiny little elephant.

5) The Element chip on his chest is Metalic. I didn't know that from the pics I'd seen. It is almost like chrome although I think it might just be very thick Metallic Paint. I'm curious if the other element chips look as different in real life as this one.

6) Interesting the Tail-Axe handle isn't on a regular peg but on a key-shape. Most TF fists won't fit it, but his hand holes are likewise key shaped.

-ZacWilliam, doubts Suruga-ya will get in more Leafback but if they do I'm in.

Episode 4's fansub. This one took a little longer due to Hydrophant's verbal tic making some of his dialogue tricky to understand:

Frontpaged.

Sorry for the delay. Was finishing up a project this weekend that blew up in my face at the 11th hour. XP

Just a heads up, Suruga-ya just opened preorders for Drillnohorn and Thunderbeak. They still have their current free shipping to the US promo going until tomorrow and it seems to apply if you order them now, far as I can tell. I figured I wasn't gonna do better than $20 something each shipped, so I bit.

-ZacWilliam, sadly it seems like Spirituan and Ignite Leo remain missing from their site
