I ended up ordering the full first wave off Amazon Japan, my first experience with ordering from them. Just got notification that they're on the way, so in roughly 2 weeks I should have them.

For the folks who are ordering these (or the previous wave) to the US: what about the tariffs? I really want to order these, but I don't want to pay an additional ~150%.
At the beginning of the week I ordered one (Hydrophant) off of Suruga-ya.com as a test case because they were having one of their I understand fairly frequent "free shipping to the US" promos.
It was listed at right around $20 with the exchange rate at the time and there was a couple dollars in fees making the total roughly $25.
There was no mention of any tariff charge and it seems to have shipped fine from Japan. Hasn't arrived yet so I'm still waiting to see how it all works out. Again basically a test case for myself.
-ZacWilliam, no mention of a teriff charge on Amazon Japan that I could see when I looked at the new ones there but their shipping charge is roughly the same cost as the toy so I likely won't try that.
Yeah, shipping from Amazon Japan wasn't free, but there was no tariff charges that I could see. At least not yet. Not sure if that's something that will get charged to me after arrival at customs or what, but I'll let you know.

So according to tracking my Hydrophant has landed in New York City, cleared customs and been given to the US Postal Service. (Still no mention of or request for any Tariff money.)

Awesome. I've been waiting to see that one translated! Out of curiosity what sort of verbal tik does Hydrophant have in the Japanese? Is it just the panic-ed blubbering?

He ends several, but not all, of his sentences with "dro" (ドロ, doro), which most transcription software kept mistaking for "darou" (だろう), which changes the meaning of the rest of the sentence.
He also made an elephant-based pun near the beginning of the ep that was really hard to convey. He combined the Japanese word for elephant, "zou", with a phrase that basically means "what to do", "oh dear", "oh boy", "oh my", "oh my gosh", etc., depending on the context. We ultimately chose to go with "Oh my schnoz" in reference to his trunk nose. We actually really struggled with this one because it not only had to be an elephant related pun, but it had to fit into a very brief sentence.
Is that him saying "Mud" after his sentences the same way Lightlong sometimes says "Light?"

It's "dro" as in "hydro", like how Lightlong says "ligh" as in "lightning" (and is a triple pun with both his name and "rai" meaning thunder).

I don't know if this is true at all, but it's my understanding that the US buyer will be charged the tariffs when the item reaches US customers. The overseas sender won't charge the tariffs. I had thought about doing a test order, but I didn't want to get stuck trying to return the thing if I did end up getting hit with the tariffs. I eager to hear what you experience is! I want that elephant, haha!
Turns out there was a thing called the De Minimis exception. It was a loop hole where nothing under $800 value was being charged tarrif fees because it was too small potatoes to bother with the paperwork and such.
So that's why me and others ordering Wild King didn't get charged.
Bad News: Supposedly the government has closed the loophole as of yesterday. So I havnt tried but I assume anyone trying to order them now should get tarrif hits.

Yeah, I’d heard about the de minimis and it ending. I haven’t ordered anything from overseas this past week because of that. (I just wish I’d known about the Amazon Japan Wild King situation a little sooner!)
I’m real curious to see how it plays out going forward. I’m expecting the worst. No more Takara toys for me for the foreseeable future. I’ve got some stuff on pre order I don’t think I’ll ever see.
I can’t find a lot on the internet regarding tariffs and individual buyers. I saw one Reddit post about headphones or some kind of audio equipment (above $800) that someone got charged tariffs for. I guess we’ll be seeing more chatter in the coming weeks.
