Skyrim! Because all the really good stuff never actually leaves.

I have always had a soft spot for Skyrim, with its expansive open world and endless quests to explore.

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

I reinstalled yesterday, and have been building a shiny new mod list and discovering everything that's changed in the mod community in the almost 4 years since I last did.

And it's going about well as you can expect. I'm getting some BRAND NEW, never before seen errors I've been getting trying to install some of the stuff that's popular; like first person animations. I wanna see them actually open the door, SURE!

Why can't I move in third person?

*checks the mods again, makes sure the pre-reqs are installed, runs nemesis*

Oh wait... this computer is new relative to the last time I played skyrim... do I actually have the VC++ redistributable installed? Apparently not... wonderful. I'll see if it all works tomorrow, I've stopped caring tonight.

So I guess the Oblivion Remaster shadow dropped sometime earlier this week. I got this digitally last night.

Oh for hugs sake! Another Skyrim release? *snore*

I think I've given enough of my money to Bethesda for the same game. It was fun the first couple times, but other games have done it better since then and I just can't stomach giving Howard more money so that he can rest on his laurels.

It's just the fact that Bethesda can't seem to get past the success of this game and move on to newer things and I've just gotten to the point of "move the hug on!"

Now let me explain. For one thing, they haven't whored out Oblivion nearly as much as they have Skyrim. In fact, my only other copy so far has been the PS3 original. So it's not nearly the same story.

Also this was my first Elder Scrolls game. So having it on a current console is really cool.

Also also, Patrick Stewart.

I mean, it was honestly less about Skyrim itself and more about how it seems Bethesda keeps releasing it over and over again even on systems that you can already play a previous version on...to the detriment of bringing out anything

Like, at least when Nintendo re-released OoT for the ### time, it was on a system that didn't already have a perfectly fine version already. Skyrim on the other hand...

And as far as that goes, I'm also giving a major stink eye to Naughty Dog as well.

I will say though, ignoring the repeated re-releases, Skyrim in itself is a perfectly good game.

Oblivion on the other hand has been needing some more love.

Did they get rid of the enemy level scaling that was based around the assumption that you'd be dumping all your points into combat abilities every single time, and eventually made the game nearly impossible if you weren't?

I only just started last night. I hope Wonko's right, because that's one of the few things I didn't like about the original.

I've been playing Oblivion Remastered a few days. Only up to level 9 but so far the scaling seems all right.

Mostly it's just the original game with updated graphics though, which is pretty fab. I was beginning to think that there'd always only be one Elder Scrolls game I'd be able to play on my PS5.

Actually it's three now, if you add in Elder Scrolls Online - and it's actually getting even closer to classic TES in June's update, as you'll finally be able to swap class skill lines for other class skill lines, so you can make proper Destruction or Conjuration mages, among other things. And their version of spellcrafting will also become part of the base game in July.

So here's my Oblivion character. I forgot the freakin 'h' at the end of her name.

Hey remember when the eighth generation came along and suddenly we got a bunch of games that were showing off how bright and colorful they were, in contrast to the Real Is Brown era of the seventh generation?

Why the hell is this remake of one of the few brightly-colored seventh generation games BROWN???

I mean, I don't want to trivialize the brown, because honestly, I do feel the same way. When I went back and played the PS3 Oblivion after playing Skyrim for so long, I was shocked at just how colorful things were.

But to be honest, if the only problem I have is that everything is brown...I mean, hey, I'm finally able to play Oblivion on PS5. I mean, I love my PS3. But it is starting to show its age. So the more games I can move up to my PS5 the better.

And honestly, aside from the brown, I can't deny that as a net whole, the Remaster looks freaking amazing.

I put my ESO in my PS5 a couple nights ago. It proceeded to download several hours worth of updates. I went to bed and let it do its thing.

I tried signing on last night. It had refunded all of my skill points. I guess the skill system has changed since I last signed on many years ago. I couldn't figure anything out.

Like, just as an example, I know I can turn into a werewolf. After a few minutes fumbling through the menus I saw my skills menu confirm it. I have no clue how to do it though. I don't know how to change weapons, use magic... I know nothing!

Welp! Back to Oblivion!

If you really do want to give it a real spin again, just make a new character - the tutorial should help as a refresher, and then once you remember(or re-learn) how the controls and stuff work you can go back to your main. There's a "Returning Player" thing being implemented in June's patch to help with that sort of thing too, but I don't know what criteria there will be to enable it for a given account.
