I remember no small amount of controversy over how aggressive the military was at recruiting minorities, with people saying it amounted to a genocide campaign since joining the army means being sent overseas to die.

So in a way, this is a victory. Two ways, if you count being understaffed when Trump inevitably starts a stupid war with either NATO, its own people, or (ideally, given that it would stretch them extra thin) both.

I hope Trump does nothing militarily. But if he does, do you hope he fails?

Trump could grow horns and cloven hooves and then eat freshly-baptized white male babies on camera and their opinion of him wouldn't change one iota. They've completely abandoned their god in favor of the demon their god warned them about.
Granted, it wouldn't change my opinion of him either, although him going from orange to red might be an improvement aesthetically.

Another possible reason for the "Gulf of America" thing besides ego and trying to skirt around legislation specifying the Gulf of Mexico like a TTRPG rules lawyer arguing RAW: using it as a loyalty test.

Also the "real" Gulf of America is Nakhodka Bay:

I thought it would be a little harder after Hegseth barely got in, but Republicans are falling in line.

Musk has basically taken over from McConnel in keeping them in line from what I've heard. Every time someone has gone against Trump's nominees he has a "talk" with them and they fall in line after.

He's telling them that Earth is screwed and if they want a seat on his ship to Mars, they'll have to play ball.

How badly does he expect to screw Earth over that living on a desert planet with no air is going to be an improvement?

He doesn't care. He just wants them to buy into the project so he can take their money and then make another company so he can feel like a big boy. Whether that company ever actually produces anything worthwhile is secondary.

It's hard for me to fathom that Earth could ever be so unlivable that Mars would be better by comparison, but that seems to be what Elon's glazers keep clinging to.

From the recent press conference where Musk stole the show:

Video at the link. Kids say the darndest things....
(Was tempted to put this in the Funnies thread, but I don't think it was meant to be funny when it happened)

I'm in full schadenfreude mode thinking about how much it must be killing Trump to know that fElon has such a strong hold on his leash that he has to sit there while fElon's assassin repellant says that to him on ****ing camera.

Just to be fair, looking into it further I've also found speculation the body shield kid could have been talking to reporters off-camera too. Either way, Trump was plainly unhappy about Musk doing all the talking, and the reporting I've seen about it points out how Musk was absolutely controlling the conference the entire time.

He said that awful quiet if it was meant for someone who wasn't right in front of him. If you've been around kids that age for any length of time, you know that their volume settings are 1 and 10, and that fleshy Kevlar vest wasn't speaking at 10.
