He plays checkers, he knows his goal is the other side of the board and will confidently make moves without stopping to think about them, and will sometimes try to move 2 spaces, to see if anyone stops him.

I thought it was just goofy when Trump was asked about the childcare crisis and he kind of just said when the tariffs start rolling in none of that would be an issue. But he was really whispering in the souls of embarrassed millionaires, wasn't he? How many dopes are out there expecting the nation to be awash with wealth right away? And how to they understand a movie like this where Trump winds up not doing the tariff after all?

Which is good, because we know they won't.
In this instance, at least, I'm thinking less "distraction" and more about his transactional mindset. He's done a lot of his tarriff-threatening specifically as a means of negotiation to get other countries to do what he wants them to do. I think the same can be suggested about his stated desire to annex Canada.
It must be confusing to the people who believe tariffs were going to flood our economy with cash or bring manufacturing back. Why doesn't he DO it already?
