This is a mixed bag for me. I could live without the chrome (though I prefer it) but scaling it down seems like such an odd decision.

That said... this is the toy I've personally wanted from Hasbro for 40 years. I don't "need" it, but I feel obligated to get it because while I haven't really picked up maybe more than 3 or 4 things in the past 2 years... this is the first actual good Hasbro Optimus Prime toy since G1. It looks like it's supposed to and it does what we've always wanted it to do.

Yup. This might also be the first time in ages that I buy repros for this. Also, it might be ironic if someone does a slightly OSKO version of this, thus making it the same size as the original G1, complete with all toy decals, etc. Then, I'll probably buy that too.

Perhaps this means that Takara won't be releasing this anytime soon?

The new one looks Slightly better in jet mode to me and the change is neutral in robot mode.

Honestly I see this and Missing Link as two very different things.

Missing Link is a 1980s toy constructed with modern toy technology.

This is a modern toy designed based on the look of a 1980s toy.

The former is something amazing and awesome that as a kid of the 80s I absolutely couldn't pass up.

I'm not sure the colors work all the way. LOVE the metallic purple, but the base brown just isn't jiving with me. I see the intention, but I'm not sure it completely works here.

It's a very unattractive shade of brown in pictures. Of all the colors this could've been, I cannot for the life of me figure out why they went with that. Charcoal black with orange highlights, Magma-orange with dark red highlights, heck - pale blue with dark blue highlights. Just about anything besides sick-dog-poop-brown.

Despite the inherent issues, I'd actually welcome translucent plastic on one of these.

I had the same thought. There's nothing on these that takes a lot of stress, so translucent would actually stand a chance of surviving.

Love this set. I've wanted a Xaaron for years, and this one doesn't disappoint. Flame, likewise, is absolutely beautifully done.

Sure. But it's 99% a combination of last year's ROTB mainline toys and the first-year Legacy toys from two years ago.

That Prime is tempting, but I might wait and pick it up in stores for my Optimus shelf.

Not really digging the new core figure repaints, but that size isn't for me unless it's a cassette bot or a human exosuit.

Thankfully, like Straxus, the "comics shading" doens't look out of place on Xaaron - it looks more like singe marks stege-style.

Xaaron is perfect. Wish Flame had more paint detail in vehicle mode, but like Xaaron I'm here for the robot mode so anything else is electro-frosting on the energon cake.

I know he matches the comic (and I love it) but Flame sure looks like Rodimus to me. I even said over on the Discord that I can see someone slapping a Rodimus head on him and little else would need to change.

Huh, I was expecting Xaaron to be an Impactor retool, for some reason. (Hilarity, if nothing else.) Both of them being based on molds I've never bought before adds an extra temptation.

Well it's a must buy and I'll immediately snap it up for those two characters. I do think the logic of retooling Refraktor so much over just reworking Cyberverse Megatron is weird personally. And Gamerverse Megatron is a *terrible* toy, but I do struggle to think of a base mold that would have fit Flame better.
