This. I still think he's a cool figure with an annoying shoulder design, but I don't regret getting him.
All I know re: all this BW2 Galvatron talk is: (1) He's still one of my favorite toys ever, and (2) mine has acquired a small handful of busted ratchets, broken clips, etc. over the years, so I would like a new, modern take on him, pretty please.

So according to the Wiki it doesn't appear there was much designer crossover between the Laser Prime mould and the Armada Megatron mould in Legacy. Now take that with a grain of salt because it's the Wiki and their info could be incomplete. Still, it doesn't appear as if they share a principal designer who forced the same shoulder design in.
It might just be one way they do shoulders in general, and they haven't caught on that it's unpopular.
Related to this... I was a kid when Armada came out, I had the original Armada Megatron, and still have him.
When I got Legacy Armada Megs I had some serious flashback moments. Sure, he doesn't have all of the original's gimmicks but the thing is so lovingly sculpted after the original that I found myself trying to activate them via muscle memory. I've had the original for so long that and this thing was so accurate to it that it tricked my monkey brain into thinking it was the same thing multiple times when I first handled it!
That- and being able to do things with this classic design like bend his knees(!)- just brought out a sense of childhood joy in me. Yeah the shoulders aren't what I would have done but it's such a small gripe compared to everything awesome that toy does that I can't fathom...

Yeah the lack of Knife, even as an accessory, is honestly my biggest complaint/annoyance with the mold.
While I agree, if only for nostalgia's sake, that they didn't even include the combat knife as like a peg accessory is a huge shame and a massive oversight.

The worst thing I would say about Legacy Armada Megatron is part of his tank barrel being a separate piece that gets knocked off too easily.

I literally just bought the Legacy Megatron shoulder upgrade kit last week at TFCon Orlando. SamMakesToys was there and he was selling the kits for a measly ten bucks.
Also, Aaron Archer held a panel that weekend at which he talked about the design for the original Armada Megatron. He mentioned that, among the design inspirations for Armada Megatron were G2 green tank Megatron, Transtech Megatron, and Beast Machines Mega class Tankor. He also revealed that Armada Megatron's shiv is meant to be a poorly-done homage to Takara G1 Megatron's big sword, and that the Megatron/Tidal Wave combination was largely done on the Takara side.

The things I love about the knife hand...
It just shows how dedicated Megatron is to combat. Even when all of his cannons are out of amo, even if you take out Tidal Wave, he's got a knife to attack you with.
Also the ONE time it was used in the show was just perfect. He uses it to cut himself free from Optimus' grasp because he knows they can't defeat Unicron unless he dies, and he knows Prime won't let that happen. So out of nowhere... hand knife and he makes the noble sacrifice.
Those two things make the hand knife a vital part of that design for me.

I find it awkward about the toy is that they designed a way to hide the face that’s only visible when the tank is flipped over when his shoulders and thighs are in full view.

I liked the hand knife too. And frankly, there's a reason soldiers carry knifes - aside from being a good last resort weapon, knives are a useful tool in general.
I liked the idea that he was just that eager to hurt people, he found a tiny sliver of spare carrying capacity and decided he had room for a shiv. Reminds me of playing D&D.
He is a walking pile of weapons yet doesn't look overly busy. Brilliant design.
I was going to bring up the cartoon as well, but I'm afraid you're mistaken -- he uses it twice. (Same episode, I think, though.)
