What stupid thing did the GOP say or do this time? Episode 3!

Even if we get the best case of a blue clean sweep, I still have my doubts about the GOP collapsing completely, simply because of First Past The Post. Koch brothers etc are going to still want someone to back as opposition to Dem, and unless everyone gets behind the LIbertarian party all of a sudden, pure inertia and all the Americans who consider that R an integral part of their identity will keep it rolling I expect. It may not look like the current R party anymore, but it's too useful a brand identity for certain parties to let die.

Oh no, republicans will still exist. Some are actual conservatives whom refuse to leave the name and will suffer for it because they will never be able to escape the taint of trump, even when he's not there and has nothing to do with it. And the cultists will still exist, but they'll be treated with the same kind of care as preppers and sovereign citizens are. They won't truly be a political force anymore, outside of force of habit. Dems will run for maybe (and keep in mind: maybe is power lifting here.) one election functionally unopposed, (By which I mean: there are (R)'s there, but they take no serious numbers because they have no support and no money.) and probably a bunch of new parties will pop up where in democrats will be center, not left.

We're not watching the overton window shift. We're watching the overton window getting ripped out of the wall and replaced. And with a little bit of luck, and some progress minded kids throwing themselves into politics: a double panned, high efficiency overton window.

If there's any silver lining to Trump being projected to win, it's that we probably won't have Biden voters refuse to show up because they assume they've got it in the bag. I still think that was enough to tip the scale back in 2016.

Back then, nobody thought a half-senile clown like Trump, a person so reviled that even Sesame Street has mocked him in the past, could possibly ever drum up enough votes. Unfortunately, we were wrong, thanks to the electoral college.

We greatly underestimated the power of stupid people in large groups.

The other side of that is: trump has also pissed off the large groups of stupid people. Not all of them, but enough of them that he's going to lose so long as even normal voter turn out happens.

But people are also fired up like hell because you literally cannot throw a rock without hitting SOMEONE who's basic rights haven't been stripped away. And with the GOP currently foregoing any and all subtlety: it's obvious what they're going to do next regardless of public opinion or requirements.

The "leopard eating people's faces won't eat MY face" factor is still a factor to deal with though. keep in mind. Especially the hardcore Rs who always vote R because "they're MY people" and does their best to ignore the person who's wearing the R because they don't want to think about it that much. As much as we hope or want (or pray for some folk) that Trump won't pull numbers, assuming he's going to lose is how 2016 happened, as stated above. He shouldn't even be running again, given everything, but the fact he got this far is reason enough to not write him off until he's either forced out of the race due to the results of his court cases, or the ballots are being counted.

By all means, don't give up hope, but don't assume either. Just have courage, and keep pushing in all the arenas you can.

Which is why assuming he's going to lose ABSOLUTELY MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY all of you making sure you're registered to vote. That your friends and family are registered to vote. That random strangers at the grocery store are in fact registered to vote. Then offering to take ALL THOSE PEOPLE to polling stations if need be.

Last time the assumption lead to lazyness. This time, action leads to the assumption. He's going to lose, because you, everyone you know, and as many people as possible that you don't know, are going to go vote.

Hear me? Go. *******. Vote.

It's not just the US that loses if trump gets to play president again, the entire ******* world will suffer the repercussions. It will LITERALLY be responsible for the deaths of thousands. I am not joking.

He's literally responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands already, thanks to his mishandling of COVID. Let's not forget that. And that was just due to the laziness that, prior to that point, had been his best quality because it was stopping him from following through with the much worse things he kept threatening to do.

And we can't count on that laziness forever. Any moment he might snap, decide the whole world deserves to burn for spurning him, and push the button that dooms us all.

Oh no, his laziness will be the direct cause of the dead I mention. Trump won't support nato, ukraine, taiwain, or literally any other group and it will kill people in the subsequent military invasions. China will invade and putin will have almost nothing stopping him from getting the soviet union back together... except poland. Poland will ******* murder a russian and not even break a sweat.

That's going to piss off a LOT of texans. The biggest consumers of porn are generally the puritans.

I do sympathize with the idea that internet access shouldn't have to be an all-or-nothing proposition—like I actually think it could turn out to be beneficial for kids to be exposed to explicit sex-ed materials long before puberty but I still wouldn't want seven year olds stumbling onto mainstream pornography (which is often misleadingly sexist, racist, and various other problematic things to those not yet mentally equipped to separate fiction from reality). To say nothing of the benefits that having a robust digital ID verification system could have on things like online banking, or even just some kind of social network that has the means to report you to the authorities if they catch you using their service to stalk and harass people.

Unfortunately right now the tech world is locked in this false dichotomy where it seems like the extremes of fascism and anarchy are the only options anyone will accept. Like even moreso than society in general is already hurtling toward.

This is kind of weird, even for today's GOP.

South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem posted an infomercial-style video on X Monday night lavishing praise on a team of cosmetic dentists outside her state for giving her a smile she said she can be proud of.

Noem, who has showcased herself as a potential vice presidential pick for former President Donald Trump, posted the nearly 5-minute video on her personal X account, writing, "I love my new family at Smile Texas!"

Noem at the start of the video identifies herself as the governor of South Dakota as a clip is shown of her speaking at a state Republican party event with Trump signs in the background.

She needed to have what she called an adjustment to her teeth because she knocked out her front teeth years ago in a biking accident, she says in the video.

Noem's two spokespersons didn't immediately respond to emails asking what prompted Noem to make the video, whether the dental work was free in exchange for making the video and why she went to Texas when other providers in South Dakota appear available.

Smile Texas also didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

"The team here was remarkable and finally gave me a smile that I can be proud of and confident in, and that really is a gift that I think is going to be incredibly special to have," Noem said.

She mentions two dentists by name and says she chose Smile Texas, among other things, "because they're the best," adding that she researched other cosmetic dental work they'd done.

And it's not "informercial-style", it just straight up is complete with the company's logo.

And if you're curious (like I was), this wasn't like driving a few extra miles to the Target on the other side of town instead of the one down the road. This is quite a trek just for some veneers.
