Unscheduled Offworld Activation: the Stargate thread

The whole "not a reboot" thing is heartening, as is having the original creators onboard; this sounds more like what the industry calls a legacy sequel (or what we in the Star Trek fandom call a re-launch).

The third "Star" franchise is coming back! The trinity of Wars, Trek, and Gate are complete!

Looks like we're getting a new Stargate series via Amazon Prime Video. And the creatives have already said, it's NOT going to be a reboot. Everything happened!

I liked the original movie. I loved SG-1 and Atlantis. Universe wasn't my cup of tea and I kind of fell off it. But, I am interested to see what they do with a new show. Especially with this being a continuation of sorts. So, I guess they'll have to come up with new villains for their new crew to face. Or everything will have fallen apart in the last 15 years we've been away from this world. We'll see.

Between this and The Librarians making a comeback, it's kind of a good time for fans of this style of show.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing this! So much so that I accidentally made a duplicate thread...whoops! (This is why we should have some form of "Stargate" in the actual title of the thread itself. *Ahem*)

With the original cast of both SG1 and Atlantis past their fifties, I'm all for a new line up with them making guest appearances. It doesn't need to jump into quests or event stuff just some world building.

Noted; thread title changed.

The talk about appealing to new viewers suggests that the initial status quo (before the characters get "read in") will appear to be as close to the modern real world as possible, suggesting that the Stargate program is still classified (though this is a setting where there really is a viable "Space Force," complete with multiple starships).

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Just learned this and came to report it... but here we are.

Actually saw an early episode of SG1 the other day. It was almost painful how "late 90's" it was. Letterbox format, grainy film, neon colours in the alien props (S3; foothold.)... but still so fun to watch.

As a huge Stargate fan I have reservations on a new "updates for modern audiences" take on pretty much anything these days, as it more often than not turns out to be trash.

But Amazon has had a relatively good track record in keeping true to the source and more importantly making the stories be GOOD.

So I have middling hopes for this.

Given it's amazon, "updates for new audiences" probably means adverts during broadcast, and amazon prime deliveries for macguffins.

Well I guess getting a model Stargate wouldn't be a problem.

Even Stargate Infinity?
ESPECIALLY Stargate Infinity!

...Somehow.

Look, I honestly don't remember enough of the cartoon to say one way or another. The multiverse exists in Stargate, so it's a possible dimension or alternate timeline, why not?

The Stargate program has been defunded again...for now.

This is a shame, I kind of wanted to see how this would turn out. Amazon was not my preferred avenue for reviving the franchise, but I was still interested in what they would do. Well....maybe we can get a comic or something down the line, to see what they had in mind?

I watched the original movie with Kurt Russell and it was OK, I have tried several times to watch SG-1 I just can't into it, some of it might be the humor Anderson's character just annoys me to no end and I find him coming off just stupid and annoying and not funny or enjoyable. I've tried Atlantis and like it, but I don't love it, I like the production design of Universe but what I've seen and heard about it like it was trying to be like the reboot of Battlestar Galactica which probably worked against it.

If Amazon (or whoever) wants me to watch a new Stargate show well I'm sorry I don't feel or have the time to watch 3 or 4 movies and 17 seasons of 3 TV shows, my advice take set in the same universe as those shows but have a new cast, crew, and enemies and keep references to a minimum have one character from each of the previous shows be in the pilot to sort pass the torch and set up the new show.
