Wake up, babe. New G1 just dropped.

Over at everyone’s favorite place to shop for Transformers toys, Walmart, two new yet familiar listings have gone up.

Labelled as “Transformers Toys Retro G1 Action Figures”, these two listings show us revamped versions of two fairly recent-ish releases by way of Autobots Gears and Bumblebee.

Gears is a slight retool and repaint of his Legacy United version, redesigned to look a little closer to his original toy self, faceplate and all:

Unlike the original Generation 1 toy, he still comes with his trusty, iconic… er, “blaster” (remember when each bot’s weapon would have a cool name? Allspark Farms remembers). From the listing:

As for Bumblebee, his is based on the Netflix version of the toy that was a remold from the Transformers: War for Cybertron – Earthrise Cliffjumper, and apparently that’s as far as they wished to go with it, because unlike Gears (and his own packaging art), he isn’t sporting a toy-accurate faceplate:
But hey, he still turns into a Volkswagen Bug, and still comes with the whole sniper-bazooka armament he inherited from CJ — perfect for missing shots at Megatron! So that’s something.
Here’s what the site says about him:

Kind of odd that they label the tech specs as “each sold separately” and “subject to availability”. Do they not… you know, simply come with the figure? Just how far have we fallen, here?

Anyway, both figures are going for $24.97, with a listed release date of “March 31st, 2025,” which just sounds like some sort of fiscal year placeholder to these ears, but we’ll see.
