I genuinely liked Monstructor before IDW made him cool. This isn't the remake I imagined. But I'm completely happy with this. I never had any serious hope we'd get one at all. Dinoking simultaneously raised and dashed that weak hope. It raised the possibility, but it was also totally possible that they'd stop at Dinoking and call it done. A simple repaint would never be totally satisfying. Some remolding would be needed, and another Transformers team might have considered these guys who never had a cartoon appearance not worth that kind of budget and effort. But they did this. it's so much more remolding than I dared hope for. This is pure stream of consciousness now. You know what I just realized as I was typing this? I realized what I see in these alt modes. These aren't exactly the original alt modes, sure. These are 1980s Nintendo of America inaccurate manual drawings of the original alt modes. The 1989 toys would be the actual sprites in this metaphor. The artwork is wildly off from what was intended, as later art would go on to clarify, but there's a clueless sincerity to it that's charming today. I love it. I will have it.
