However, a portal opens, leading to an exercise where fixing machines is the name of the game. Wheeljack's got this one on lock... right?Watch and find out:Episodes 20, 19, and 18 are shown after, because we're back to that nonsense. My thoughts?
Well, I'm glad you asked. Or at least clicked. We've got another Wheeljack-centric episode in short order, but that's fine; he kinda needs to catch up with the rest. But first, we open on Starscream stewing over previous defeats at the hands of Optimus and his crew. All of that is soon forgotten as his surveillance drones pick up Wheeljack racing through his city, using some sort of jamming devices to thwart his pursuers. Unfortunately, as is classic Wheeljack, one of his devices works maybe a little too well, putting him at the local emperor's mercy.Incidentally, we do get a neat look at Wheeljack's HUD while he's recovering...Looks like he's currently at fifth level, and the lower-left shows his alt mode in one icon, his energy whip in another, and... have we seen the third before? It looks like tools, perhaps hinting at his mechanical proficiency?I rather enjoyed the part where Wheeljack candidly asks Starscream about his whole dramatic speech thing, and it just takes the wind right out of Screamer's sails. Then a portal opens behind him to a game called "Quick Fix", and Starscream blasts him through it.Wheeljack tries to apologize, but Starscream just isn't having it. But before he can do anything, the two find themselves equipped with wrenches. Starscream, er, screams about the indignity of it all before flying off, while Wheeljack figures things are finally going his way. Guess Starscream isn't so much the ex-scientist here. Or maybe he just favors a different type?Jackie gets to work, and is racking up points with little effort. Starscream, on the other hand, is amusingly inept at what seems like a fairly simple task, as all his efforts keep backfiring on him.Easy win for Wheeljack, right? Good, he could really use one about now.Ah, but not so fast. Starscream suddenly remembers that he's still good at breaking stuff, and sets out to do just that... to all of the machines Wheeljack has fixed.Yeah, turns out the directive was "repair and sustain," so it seems that Starscream's poor sportsmanship is actually a valid strategy for success. Aside: Starscream says he's not some "pathetic Q unit". TFWiki isn't giving me anything -- is this a new bit of lore? He's also throwing out a good few insults I don't think we've heard before, calling Wheeljack "ground pounder" and "dirt kisser."After Starscream beats the scrap out of Wheeljack, the latter makes one last desperate play to repair a machine in the game's final moments. And he almost makes it... until Starscream swats him aside and steals the point, thanks in part to Wheeljack's makeshift arm. With the game over, Screamer's level goes up and Jackie's goes down. Wheeljack tries to get away, but unfortunately gets caught by Starscream instead, who apparently has use of a mechanic. As Starscream's drones drag Wheeljack away, Mirage looks on from a distance... and looks kinda happy about what is kind of a downer ending (albeit the good kind).I rather liked this episode. Wheeljack got to do more of his thing, and this version of the character continues to grow on me, but Starscream's gonna Starscream. Looking forward to how he gets out of this jam, as I doubt he's just going to go with the flow and do nothing, right?
Feel free to talk about this episode here, or the series as a whole over in the Transformers Cyberworld: Vocational Training thread in our forums!

Allspark Forums

Discord Server

Twitter/X

Facebook Page

Bluesky

Instagram
