I go back and forth whether he is creates distractions to do sleight of hand or whether he is just bumbling around all over the place and often someone can help him to make something useful out of what he does.
In this instance, at least, I'm thinking less "distraction" and more about his transactional mindset. He's done a lot of his tarriff-threatening specifically as a means of negotiation to get other countries to do what he wants them to do. I think the same can be suggested about his stated desire to annex Canada.

It must be confusing to the people who believe tariffs were going to flood our economy with cash or bring manufacturing back. Why doesn't he DO it already?

Someone should trick him into sending them to Puerto Rico, since he doesn't believe it's part of the US.

Yea, it's in Congress's court now. Congress HAS to remove him but he has too many people IN congress who support him to pull it off.

All those Muslims who voted for Trump because Kamala/Biden weren't doing enough for the Palestinians are probably feeling a LOT of regret right now.

That’s the craziest thing he’s ever said and BOY that’s a contest.

That you could forcibly displace MILLIONS OF PEOPLE. FROM THEIR HOME. WHILE THEY’RE IN ACTIVE ARMED RESISTANCE. SO RICH AMERICANS COULD TURN IT INTO A RESORT.

It’d be Stalingrad II.

Yea, this is just the craziest thing he's said this week(so far). Remember according to this man somehow wind turbines cause cancer and that exercise shortens your lifespan. He's also talked about invading an allied nation's territory if they won't sell it to us.

Week 3 and Citrus-hued Despot has called for ethnic cleansing of a faraway nation, in order to build a (presumably American owned and run) resort location on it. Either this is going to escalate and burn out faster than we imagined, or there won’t be anything left by 2028.

The local union at my workplace found themselves in a weird spot at election time. Really since the emergence of Trump he has generally seemed more attractive to the union members than Democratic candidate, particularly because the Oklahoma culture is already leaned that way. But especially since Democrats have pushed green energy, refinery workers think their way of life is on the line. So they vote Trump in droves.

Today a message was posted in the union Facebook that the White House has fired key labor relations workers and now the governments' support systems for unions are precarious. Whoopsie, guys.
