So...

Does anyone still play WoW?

Cause, like, I used to play back when. I hit a wall after mists of pandera (panderia?) dropped: played for like 2 days and realized... I just did not want to go through that whole grind again even though I was only about halfway kitted out for WotLK end game stuff. So I walked away, and did other things with my time.

But... I didn't hate my time playing, I had fun, or I wouldn't have consistently played and paid for almost two years straight.

And figured: I've got some spare coin at the moment, and I am bored as hell and longing for something different, doesn't look like the prices have gone up much if at all. I wouldn't mind throwing for a month and seeing.

But... the games industry has gone through like 3 major upheavals, endless scandals, blizzard has been bought and sold. I know I need a subscription for it, but do I still need to buy DLC's? I use the blizzard launcher still, right?

I played from BC until Legion, then burnout hit like a truck and I've never gone back. Sometimes I miss my troll hunter and her menagerie of exotic beasts named after Transformers (mainly Abominus the white devilsaur, Carnivac the plague wolf, and Sinnertwin the Chromagus core hound), but I don't have much drive to go back.

I don't play either since Legion, but from what I know:
Yes, you still have to buy the latest expansion, but all previous content is included in the main game.
Yes, you do still use the Blizzard launcher

But also good to know:
Your sub also gives you access to WoW Classic
Pandaria Classic is running now or soon will be(can't remember if it's out already or not), so you can pick up right where you left off, in a way, if you play on the Classic servers.

Heliotrope; my troll hunter, and I had a giant ******* turtle whose name I cannot remember, but whose actions I still adore. Never had a beast fight as hard for me as she did, and I've played pokemon since day 1. Also, I eschewed the racial preference for bows and had a friend help me get a steady supply of rifles.

I doubt my small cast of characters still exist, (I had like... four guys, split between horde and alliance. Five? TRoll, tauren, worgen, undead... one of them death knights cause I remember being harrassed by the lich king in the chat... I think there was a dwarf warrior? It was a long time ago, and my main was the troll.) so I honestly don't mind restarting. I knew there was a bunch of game access included in the price of entry, but I would at least be on the retail version to see it.

There's something about free to level 20? When they first announced that it almost got me to return back then, is that still a thing? Could I be installing tomorrow and not worrying about paying for it for an week or two?

So to answer my own question: the retail version is free (still.) to lv.20. So... I can just download it, and try it and see if this is actually what I want.

So I just started a 115 gig download. Oy.

So yeah... no price paid, I'm already level 6. It shunts you right into the newest "start area" but I do miss the old world. I rolled an undead hunter, got a boar, but thinking of going back and getting a barrow spider instead. I dunno if I'll do this for very long, but... I'm seriously thinking of dropping the price for a month, seeing what happens.

Also considering looking up a guide for how to play in 2025, cause... I have no idea what I'm doing, but I'm having fun.

So I'm at the point where I need to choose between walking away, and subbing... and I just don't want to give money to an american corporation right now. So I guess I'm uninstalling. I was having fun, but... here we are.

Shame.
