Fansub of Episode 3.

This time, I and a few others actually got to help contribute to this translation after reaching out to the fansubber to help polish it up. One minor typo slipped by us at the beginning ("Elemental Energy" should be "Element Energy"), but everything else is up to spec.

At least it's not "Emmental Energy", as Omni production might have misread it! 😅

Watching these shorts, I notice that they aren't tying "Wild Docking" to the Enigma of Combination (which was the go-to "make a combiner out of anyone" McGuffin). Which is fine -- as much as I appreciate unified takes, fresh ones are also good for story health. (And one doesn't want to be so hidebound as to make Ninja Consultant Sixshot an IDW-2005 "Phase Sixer", as Sabr noted was done jarringly on one Headmasters subtitling run. (Phase Six of what, in the Toei-G1 context?))

Anyway, this may be over-analyzing a stylistic choice, but the fact that Megatron's mouth is not moving when he talks makes me wonder if he is being controlled in some fashion. If not by Volca (subtly manipulating a sky-hero to pursue his goal of unifying the planet), then by the element(al) energy itself....

All will be revealed, I guess. 🙃

Lightlong and Leafback's mouths (and whole facial expressions) don't move either. It's a budgetary animation choice.

Oh no. This is how they get me every time. Exclusive color weapons. (I'm still looking for those damn AOE era Legendary Weapons.)

Edit: goddammit it gets worse, FOUR of them

I noticed Lightlong's static (heh) expression, but couldn't quite tell what was going on with Leafback's face (helmet?) design. It will be good for future dubbing teams, though.

Volca's dinosaur jaw does move, however, even though he's been a (speaking) limb so far....

All this is to say, I don't know what's going on -- I don't know if I really felt that way with regards to Transformers fiction since 1996. It's far too soon to see if this small line and miniseries will have the revitalizing effect that Mainframe wrought all those years ago with their CG beasties (roar), but it has my interest.

Episode 4: "The Kindhearted Hydrophant".

We get three new Energy Beast characters: the titular Hydrophant, a Spinosaurus with Earth-element Ground Energy, and a fire-element lion named Ignite Leo. The Spinosaurus's name is a bit tricky to determine at this point, but it's something like "Spirituan" or "Spirichuan" (スピリチュアン). Every Energy Beast has something related to their element in their names, but the ground/earth elemental aspect in his name doesn't seem to be as obvious.

Another unseen character, Drillnohorn, gets name-dropped in the episode by Lightlong.
