Alright, so years ago, literally just before the live service thing started, there was a game called "Worlds adrift". I think some of the old timers might even remember me talking about it back then.

You built airships, swung around on a grapple hook, and explored a world of floating islands. Sometimes you fought other players: but there was literally no reason to other than wanting to. It was a one time cost; but it was an always online kinda thing. The game never made it out of early access because there wasn't enough interest in the game to overcome the server infrastructure costs. But the people who played absolutely loved the game: but there was no way to patch it so that it could be a single player experience. Once it was offline, it was just... gone.

Lost skies is the spiritual... continuation? You build airships, explore ruins, fight enemies, research new technologies, and work out what happened to turn the world into a sundered mess. It's not an MMO, it's a cooperative and single player experience.

I was burned, as was the rest of the community when worlds adrift went offline. Lost skies is literally made by the same company and people. It honestly seems like they learned their lesson, and made a title that would endure the companies downfall... but...

I'm probably going to buy it regardless. I played the demo and loved every minute of the experience. But I do remember my history.

I feel like I remember hearing of Worlds Adrift, but never looked into it and missed the whole drama. The concept sounds fun if the developers have gotten rid of the always online part.
