Finally...the end of our long, long...LONG pony-drought is within sight!
(They put their Cutie Marks in the logo and everything!)
It'll be premiering exclusively on Youtube starting in "early" 2027! Each episode will be 9 minutes long and release every two weeks.
The art style is based on the illustrations of Nicholas Kole, who's worked on the Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Disney's Lorcana trading cards. So, the actual animation won't look exactly like the promo images, but it should be...something around that.
Here's a interview with some of the showrunners, where we might be able to unearth a few more tidbits about this new show:
The answers are...a little formulaic, and "corporate approved". But, the magical girl influence they mentioned has me hopeful. I guess we can't expect much, since they don't have a ton to show.
Here's a VERY short summary of the San Diego Comic Con panel:
Supposedly, it's completely it's own universe, with no direct ties to any of the previous Generations. And, yes...versions of Applejack and Rarity are already confirmed to make some sort of appearances, eventually.
We have the voice cast for the new Mane 4. I don't recognize any of them, myself, but I'm pretty bad about knowing voice actor's names. You can check out a introduction video here:
My first impression is that it feels like they're playing the characters a *little* young? But, eh, we'll see how it turns out in the finished product.
We even got the theme song:
The beginning feels a little over-autotuned, but it turns into a nice little bop. I like it!
So...basically it's Tell Your Tale, with no other show to go along with it. Or it's basically Wild Manes. I don't know how I feel about the shorter length. But, it is the way a lot of kid's shows are going, these days. So, I can't complain too much. It's really not THAT much shorter than a 11-minute show you'd find on Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon, I guess. And Tell Your Tale was able to do a lot with a much shorter runtime. So, hopefully, they use the time they have well.
I have seen some complaints about the smaller cast. They just keep shrinking the size of these casts every Generation.
(If they keep this up, by Generation 10, we'll have a show featuring ZERO Ponies! And that's just unacceptable! And Generation 11 would start featuring NEGATIVE Ponies! What a nightmare!)
But, in theory, I'm okay with the smaller cast. It gives you more time to focus on the characters you do have. Hopefully, we get to dive a little deeper into each of their personalities due to the smaller cast. So, time will tell.
So, you know what? I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. I would have liked to have seen a *little* bit of the actual animation. But, at this point, I'm just glad to be getting some actual Pony news after so much radio silence. It'll be a while to wait, still. But, I'm looking forward to checking this out, when it releases.
