So I finally saw Crisis part three this weekend now that it's free on Max, and I kind of enjoyed it.

So the basic premise is that the anti-monitor was trying to destroy the multiverses because it should have never existed and having so many worlds was destroying reality. And after a heart wrenching loss of Supergirl unleashing the power of 52 suns on the one anti-monitor, thousands more of them appear like antibodies fighting a disease. The heroes grab the miracle machine from the pocket dimension that the future league stored it in, and sacrificed Wonder Woman with her immortality to it in order to create a new single universe with components of each universe comprising them.

I really enjoyed seeing some closure on the past cartoon series. The super friends was a great throwback, as was seeing the 2003 Teen Titans tower. However, it was the DCAU world that stole the show for me. Seeing Kevin Conroy voice Batman for the last time, fighting Joker on the rooftop, was great! Conroy's speech doesn't make too much sense for Batman, but it makes perfect sense for Conroy. He wanted to go out being Batman, and he delivered an excellent line for it. At first I didn't think it was Mark Hammil playing Joker because it didn't sound right, but it was him! We got Hamil and Conroy together for one last time! :) Then we see the Watch tower and see our JLU team members, GL and Hawkgirl getting in one final kiss before the anitmater wave hits. Perfect send off for the DCAU.

The physical media went out with a placeholder voice for Joker instead of Hamill's performance. I sent away for a replacement with the right voice, but it hasn't arrived yet. I don't subscribe to Max, so I dunno if they fixed that one or not.

Oh yeah, when I watched it, it was not Hamill fighting Batman but I remember it was Hamill on the Lex Luther team.

Yeah, that would explain why it doesn't sound like him.

I dun goofed, so I didn't post the trailer for Knightfall part 1 here. Anson Mount reprises Batman/Bruce Wayne (after previously voicing the character in the Injustice feature) joined by Pablo Schrieber (from the Halo TV series) as Jean Paul Valley.

Knightfall Part 1 is now available on streaming. A truncated, but solid adaption of the initial "phase" of the story arc. I mean, if you've read the story, you know the general "gist" of it. That said, it feels like Bane has been tweaked to incorporate some of the themes seen in the Nolan films and later stories. Granted, its been a good while since I read the novel or read the comics.
The big story, to me, is that there have clearly been some major background changes in production. I'm not a fan of the increased gore (to secure the R-rating), but I'm okay with the tradeoff to get us Studio Mir on animation. The visual and animation work is a much appreciated step up from the last decade or so of DC films (aside from oddballs like the anime Catwoman), especially from the "cel-shaded CGI" look of the so-called "Tomorrowverse" series. By and large, it's well animated, well choreographed action, with more "spice" that we've seen with recent DC animated film action sequences. The crew's Mortal Kombat experience really pays off here. Also love the character models, dumping the "streamline" look to something more reflective of Kelley Jones' art. Love them high Batman ears.

By "streaming," I assume you mean "HBO Max"?

I just bought it on Amazon and watched it there.

I will say they incorporate more of Banes origin into the start of the movie that wasn't necessarily part of the original storyline. But I guess the story was published just before it happened anyway, so why not. Honestly Bane didn't feel too tweaked to me. They ignored his crew from the comics if anything. I think this is the definitive Bane in any adaptation myself. He's got both the brains and the roided out brawn.

But it's a very faithful adaptation to me. My only issue was the framing and rearranging certain parts of Batman and Banes confrontation. But that's a me thing. That comic was one of my first and most read Batman issues. I know a few places where it wasn't panel accurate and it bugged me a bit. But nothing that changes the story in any significant way. I'm not sure if it's on Max, but if it is I would highly recommend giving it a watch.

Don't have HBO Max here, so I'll have to find another way to get it. Wonder if Apple works on my Smart TV...
