I was thinking of it more as like Terrans were the Earth-born equivalent of Cybertronians, while the Maltobots were sort of like what you said: the Malto family subset of the Autobots.

Know what bugs me here? It's not the garishness. It's not the mis-matched limbs. It's how the grill/abs and bumper/waist are completely different colors between his robot and truck modes.
