UK politics thread – meet the new boss, same as the old boss

You know, I've been thinking more about how weird the US system is, both intentionally and accidentally. Over in the Supreme Court thread I pointed out that it's not uncommon for one or both candidates for the highest office in the land to be people the general public had never heard of until...

The US Supreme Court and its decisions

At the other end of the spectrum, we have individual states (e.g. Ohio) whose constitutions are stupidly easy to amend, easier than even passing a law, so we end up with constitutions that are a zillion pages long and cover every conceivable topic.

And after having already lost a primary to some guy no one had ever heard of, too. You'd think she would have learned something from that. And speaking of "some guy no one had ever heard of", it really is amazing how rarely a presidential candidate is someone everyone is already familiar with...

In fact, Trump being an actual living cartoon villain might be the whole problem. People see this ranting lunatic on the news all the time, acting like something they've only ever seen in cartoons or particularly bad movies, and can't bring themselves to fully believe it's real because they've...

That's still way fewer people than the landslide Trump deserved to be buried in. A race between him and a garden weasel should have left him buried in a landslide.

In fact, you probably should barely be thinking about asset development at all, this early on. Unless it's your main area of expertise and you can just crank them out as quickly as any placeholder assets anyway, it's more important to get a working prototype together as quickly and simply as you...

I call shenanigans on that last one. Living on the same planet as Donald Trump constantly makes me feel like I'm living in a cartoon.

That may be true for the majority of them, but even Rare wasn't confident that it was the best way to play GoldenEye. That's why they concocted that absurd alternate scheme where you have to hold one controller in each hand. They knew dual analog was the future.

    Harris-Walz / Dems

All this discourse over whether Biden is fit to run or not and whether it's hurting his chances to win in November is likely to be a self-fulfilling prophecy if anything. In fact, I'll even call it: if he does manage to lose, I will pin 100% of the blame on the people who are constantly on TV...

Sure, but they ultimately got to decide the terms of those contracts, and if "we get to modify the games' controls to better suit the needs of our players" wasn't one of them, that's nobody's fault but their own. I can't imagine that having been a dealbreaker for anyone.

Also, and I can't believe I'm the first one to bring this up, Hillary had way more actual political experience. She had sat on various committees, was a senator for eight years, and then Secretary of State. Being married to a former President seems to be Michelle's only real achievement so far.

It's really not. A tax would be paid by everyone, automatically. If they only demand money from people who are using the service, that's called a fee. I'm not fond of governments just charging fees for services rendered, especially if it's that hard to even tell who is and isn't actually using...

UK politics thread – meet the new boss, same as the old boss

Oh, sure, but I don't understand why they can't just fund it from taxes like a proper public service. I've heard stories of officials going door to door and shaking people down like mobsters, poking around in their houses trying to find a TV or something they can claim looks enough like one to...

Geez, if those numbers hold, Kennedy's gonna be the most successful third party candidate since Perot. In any other election cycle, I'd assume he'll be stealing all those votes from the Republican front-runner. This year, though...

I mean, they're still voting for Congressmen, aren't they? They're not just writing in "Donald Trump" for every line of the ballot, surely.

I also trust that he'd be willing to declare himself no longer fit for office and hand things over to Harris.

The US Supreme Court and its decisions

I can see the Democrats sweeping this November's election. But I can also see them using it as an excuse to sit on their hands for the next four years instead of taking initiative to fix anything, especially via something as radical as stacking the Supreme Court or impeaching one or more of its...

Do you need trailing on how to handle sovereign citizens? I feel like you could just treat them like anyone else who's being belligerent and resisting arrest, and in this case it would be totally justified.
