I was working on this all night until I checked this page and found out the whole thing might be a dumb false alarm.

Head sketch looks very The Fallen to me, which makes sense given the whole... Megatronus... connection (man I hate saying that name with a passion).

Leaks being based off concept art or placeholder images does give me hope for the Transmetal Megatron being a legit toy and not a remold, just someone using Kingdom Megs as a mockup. We shall see...

Do the inverse! Pre-Transmetal colors on the Transmetal 1 body. That might look slick.

Make all the bronze plastic a darker color of Vector Prime's new metalfake stuff, and all the previously chromed plastic in a purple variation of it. That way you can use the same time-untested experimental plastic in two different areas, AND add the extra variable of different coloring chemicals to the mix for even more fun. Oh, and make all the ball joints and sockets in the tail from clear plastic to simulate the arm weapon's 'charging glow' or something.

I'm satisfied with Machine Wars Starscream. I like the increased dimensions and stylings on the head, though I still wish he had gotten some different weapons, or at least retooled shoulders to help change the profile in jet mode a bit more. But I'm happy enough given the relative obscurity of Machine Wars.
I was agreeing about the shoulders until I saw the above. Not only do they just look really good with the capes flowing out behind them, but Starscream gave himself new shoulderpads for his first coronation, why not this one too? (In my headcanon that his MW body is the possessed corpse of Skyquake, this version can be that body properly rebuilt and integrated with his spark, whatever that means. He also realized he liked the goth look and stuck with it.)

I had just been thinking this same thing. I'm hoping that the new YouTube show has Starscream in this body leading some faction or other. It would tie nicely into other fiction if this represented his immortal spark now taking more or less permanent residence in a new, more powerful body.

It's a piece of what, in hindsight, they wish BotCon 2013's exclusives should have been like, a spiritual "Wave 2" continuation of the line instead of a bunch of homages to the existing Wave 1 figures.
That would have been very cool.
IIRC, it's also what the 2013 exclusives were originally advertised as being, which is why I got excited about the reveals of Strika and Obsidian, as I wanted to see more new-to-the-original-line characters using seemingly random yet still somewhat fitting molds added to Machine Wars through that year's exclusives, when instead we got what was mostly just remakes of the original line and more Classics Seekers, instead of the new additions to it that were initially promised.
I felt the same about MW Obsidian and Strika vs. the others. And also about the BC 2010 "G2 Redux" toys. When the originals barely had a moment in the sun in their own time, it feels weird to me to see reimagined versions, unless they're straight updates of their predecessors. Like, I would happily accept a MW Optimus from a hypothetical modern mold that's essentially just the Thunder Clash design with updated engineering and proportions. But I'd be a lot less interested in a MW OP-based redeco of, like, Siege Ultra Magnus or something. The more different the new version is and the more obscure the original, the more I feel.... I dunno, defensive for that original. I don't want it to fall into the dustbin of history!

My reactions to this new MW Starscream followed that sentiment. At first it felt too different, with all the Prime elements. But when the idea I described above occurred to me that gave an explanation for those differences, with the original MW design incorporated into the backstory, that made me feel better about it. I suppose I could do that exercise for every new design, but still.

Of course, transmetal megatron will he SS07 leader class grimlock in transmetal Megatron's colours.

On a more serious note, I'm wurprised they haven't retooled Legacy Skyquake and Dreadwing into G1 Predator Skyquake or Legacy Needlenose into Smokejumper or Darkwing. (as in G2 Dreadwing) to compliment the Legacy leaders.

As much as I'd like a proper G2 Skyquake mold to do MW Starscream properly, I'm happy enough with this. It's not 100% there, but it looks good in its own right. Giant shoulder pads of doom don't look wrong on this design.

I do want a proper Thunderclash mold for MW Prime though. I just can't see anything else being truly satisfying. Retooling Legacy Laser Prime back into a flat-nosed cab would be hilarious though. I want an all-new mold but I am willing to give points for comedy.
