Saw the movie. There's a mid credit scene.

I have strong feelings. I'll process a bit then maybe expound. There's about six good things I liked about it.
Wasn't expecting a fourth wall break, but I guess if it starts on Earth, why not come back for the mid-credit scene?

On the movie
did someone mix up the scripts? I can see seeds of a theme about masculinity and sensitivity with brute He-Man vs HR Adam but it was downplayed by the comedy. Every scene with Randor was building up to it but I felt it wasn't properly addressed. Sorceress did explain it during the 'are you the God of Hammers or God of Thunder' like revelation scene but it could have been given more weight. I dunno. That was the movie I would have wanted to watch.

Cuz the comedy was yikes to me. They were acting so stupidly at times. It's annoying.

Also, I hated the background music use at times. The whole highway scene had the vibes seem off cuz of the music. Same with the attack when they first arrived at their base. Granted when it worked, it worked but most of the time, the music was a bad fit for me. Didn't like Princes of the Universe when they played it.

The times it worked was during both transformation scenes. Even though it was shown in the trailer, it was still moving. Best bright spots in the movie.

Other good stuff for me
- He-Man demonstration of his full strength at the end. Could have been on a larger scale but it was crushingly good.
- Teela used Zodak's name like a God term. I forgot the exact line but it was akin to oh my God/Zodak, y'know?
- the explanation for the funny names. Same as TMNT 2002 Mikey naming all the mutants. Made absolute sense to me.
- some representations were great. I enjoyed Beast Man, Mekaneck's brief uses. I hated that I ended up liking this new Roboto. She was great at the start, didn't like her too much in the middle, but when she said 'Duncan' before she was shot up, I got shocked. I actually thought it would have been better if she stayed dead cuz of how the quickness of the kill happened.

Oh the cameos
- Mossman. They killed the other non human.
- Orko, at the credits
- Merman, in the background during the Orko scene
- Adora, mid credits
- Krag? From the live action movie? Why him? Did he have fans? Blade was cooler.
- Actually, why Goat Man anyway? Who the hex was he? They actually had He-Man kill him. Could have been, I dunno, Whiplash or Clawful.
- oh, Trapjaw had the biggest role among the thugs. Killed him horribly too.
- Spikor had a lot of fight scenes.
- Tri-Klops was great! He barely talked and probably shot his eye laser only twice but he was dangerous. He was a sniper and very effective in the scenes he was used, except for when he got to close to He-Man. Good job for his depiction. He wasn't shown as a mechanic guy tho, just a sniper.
- who the hex is that Dion lady? They gave a lot of fight scenes by shooting a lot of bad guys. She did a spinning move at the end. She could have been a female Sy-Klone or Spinnerella but she looked normal. I think she had a green suit at the end. Who was she suppose to be?
- Cringer sadly didn't get any Power of Grayskull passed on to him. I guess we're led to believe that he's strong without it since he was winning against Beast Man
- Avion was name dropped at the end but no Stratos.
- Mekaneck neck use was more like a thick whip but was great
- did Ram Man's legs turn into springs in one scene?
- Fisto's characterization wasn't what I wanted. I was annoyed. His fist should have been more imposing too.
- Dolph Lundgren was there
- I was so excited at one part when the good guys escaped jail (dumb scene) and were walking through dust clouds to be cool. Then they started coughing. I thought for a split second that it was Stinkor there! But, no, it just dust debris. Dang it, it was a perfect set up for a Stinkor reveal.
- there was some sort of pig minion who was waking up Skeletor. Who was he?

- Evil Lyn could have been stronger personality wise, I think. But that's me.
- I actually don't mind the silly Skeletor. Would have made his doing atrocious scenes more impactful.
- Nicolas G had good drama scenes during the death of Randor.
- waaaaay too many Man at Arms scenes. Why did they give him so much focus?
- Teela. Hmm. I guess she was OK.
- Sorceress was good.

I really wanted to like the movie but the dumb story decisions (put friendlies in prison. Have thugs take the sword. How the good guys escaped jail. Adam practically just walks in to get sword back.) and dumb comedy brought it down for me, even with the really good parts. Friends are going to group watch it and I don't really feel like re watching again.

I hope it succeeds. Might capture the modem crowd, I dunno. I'd like to see the sequel hook and maybe have Adam actually fight Adora. But it needs to make money. I don't like it too much but still hope it succeeds.

There’s a seemingly early scene with Skeletor floating on the interwebs. Probably gives a good indication for the vibe the film is going for

I breezed Fero’s recap, probably shouldn’t have, but too late. I’m seeing it on Thursday. But I DID enjoy that bit of Skeletor in the clip, though…

Also, today is “embargo day” for film reviews, so those should start going live throughout the day. Lots of positives from early press/premieres, but we’ll see what the broader critic base thinks

Fero mentioned Dian. She was a character from the Filmation-backed newspaper strip comics, appeared in a full arc across the winter of 1989/1990 as a junior officer assigned command of an Eternian Guard outpost in the middle of nowhere. When informed that Prince Adam is coming to make an inspection (along with a whole of TV reporters tailing him), she sounds rather disrespectful of her future King. Turns out she's at the end of her rope trying to keep her people alive, in a base that's falling apart due to budget cutbacks and dealing with attacks by Skeletor's minions.

Speculation on my part, but as all of her trailer appearances show her as more of a gunslinger, I think her role was originally scripted for the Marvel Comics version of Andra. Until someone stepped in and said "No, the Revelation version of Andra is the definitive version,", which is frankly the right call.

Holy cow, I had no idea that she was a real character. Didn't even know there was a comic strip.

Hmm, would I have preferred a gender bent version like the new Roboto or Andra from Revelations? In context of the movie, I would have preferred if she was maybe an imported Princess of Power, just so she would have a gimmick. Frosta was the closest to He-Man in the original cartoon.

So Skeletor isn't all grimdark and has more funny lines than just the trailers? Because that's what I want. I know we'll never get Oppenheimer Skeletor back, but I'll take a decent stand in.

Slightly different news, the original live action movie was just put up on streaming. 15 bucks. Come payday I'm getting it. Still have my VHS copy somewhere. . . .

I thought I read that this version of the 87 film was reworked and included additional material, like cut/deleted scenes, can you verify? Or was that just for the 4K home media release?

Reviews are rolling out, and with 91 reviews, the film is sitting at 76%. Will likely drop with more reviews, and we’ll see where the audience score lands in a few days. But that percentage is on par with Captain Marvel and better than any Transformers film besides Bumblebee and TF One. It’s also SIGNIFICANTLY better than ANY of the GI Joe films.

Oh dang it, I looked up online and apparently there's a third extra scene! I left after the mid credit scene because the promoter said it was just a mid credit bonus.

Stay after the very end of the credits then.

Thanks to a social media person getting a tour from Smyth’s Toys in the UK, we got a sneak peak at the big playset for the Core segment of the Masters of the Universe film line. Sporting a classic folding design, the playset features a facade for both Castle Grayskull AND Snake Mountain. No real details are known at this time, but expect the pricing to be between $90-100, going by the asking price for the Origins playsets (the “proto” colors Grayskull retails for about $108, at the moment).
The set, being marketed as “Battle for Eternia”, is guaranteed to be a holiday “big toy”, so I would not expect it on retail shelves until September, or possibly even October.

In addition, a new Skeletor sneaked into the display: a Core Basic redeco featuring the accessories from the feature Skeletor figure in a snazzy purple and gold, evoking the infamous “disco Skeletor”. It’s not a redeco of the feature Skeletor because both elbows are present, the gimmick resulted in one of his arms getting “gimped” to accommodate the action feature.

Well, I bought the core kids version of He-Man on the weekend.
First action figure I've bought in years, and I'm looking forward to getting more as they show up in stores.

Turns out I wasn't burned out on collecting after all.
I was just burned out on paying $35+ per figure.

I was waiting for my friends' screening of motu to end and decided to ask the attendant if I could just see the ending credit I missed. She said asked the supervisor, which I did and he was OK to let me in the cinema, just in time to see the mid credit sequence up to the final end credit bonus.

Good on that supervisor guy for being nice. Hope he has a great week.

RT score remains at 74% with over 100 verified critic reviews. I watched IGN’s video review (with its FIVE AD BREAKS!), and they gave it an 8/10. Probably the most interesting discussion point was the “It’s a bad movie, but…” angle that has, as it tends to every few years, crop up. Citing films that aren’t necessarily “good”, but remain entertaining and successful (with Mario Galaxy and Mandalorian being strong examples from the past few months). Bob “MovieBob” Chipman gave it a 5/10 (6/10 without a blatent Amazon placement), citing strong issues with the script and tired jokes. He made the comparison to “Batman and Robin”, another film with a campy nature, questionable script, but strong production design and action sequences.

I am eagerly awaiting an afternoon screening tomorrow. I was tempted by the IMAX premiere tonight…but I just couldn’t swing it after 6 straight days working nights. I’m watching the weather to decide between a 2pm standard showing…or a 4:45 IMAX showing.

I’m also going to throw down my guesstimates on the remainder of the Core product line, for fun :p . Mattel’s “catalog page” only covers through the end of summer, so I’m convinced we’ll get another batch of product for the holidays and spring (depending on early product Sales and how the film performs). Some characters remain up in the air, but as we’ve seen with Goatman, some might end up in some form of exclusive. I’ve not seen the film and won’t go into leaked spoiler stuff. I’m basing these guess on several factors-
1. Apparent importance to story (most of which are already released or on deck)
2. Marketing prominence. Being featured heavily on the poster or ancillary products points to higher potential support
3. Legacy/“cool factor”. If it’s a legacy character, or a particularly striking design, they are higher up the potential list. Amazon has NOT been shy on showing off their $200 million project and all the practical work done.

Core: I’m certain of two more waves of figures, maybe 3 if the line rolls into spring. Evil-Lynn is confirmed via retailer listings. Skeletor got leaked with the play set, and I was pretty certain of Skeletor and He-Man getting new takes regardless.
Wave 5- Evil-Lynn, Moss Man, He-Man III
Wave 6- Skeletor III, Randor, Man At Arms II
Wave 7- Repaint/refesh wave. Maybe a modified Skel-Knight or Royal Guard (derived from MAA) joined by some early line refreshes like Beast Man and Mekaneck

Feature: I’m only expecting another pair of releases, possibly with refreshes (may or may not be deco changes) to He-Man and Skeletor. I’m placing my bets on Spikor (Flail Smash!) and Fisto (Power Punch!)

In regards to missing characters? Karg is apt to be an exclusive, like GoatMan. Sorceress is a major character…but doesn’t DO much. If she doesn’t become a pack in with the play set, my expectations are low. Some of those above are interchangeable. I waffled whether they’d do a Man At Arms feature figure, or just a refresh in the basic line. Same with Fisto, he has a viable “feature”, but he’s a relatively minor character. Dian is unlikely in the Core line, barring some exclusive set.

The Talon Fighter will probably be a $50-60 big toy offering, but might end up a retailer exclusive. I don’t expect a Core Fright Fighter, I think the Origins version covers both bases. The Talon Fighter might share the same fate, being designed or marketed in the Origins line. Not sure if we’ll get a Collector, but an Origins retool of the vintage version wouldn’t be out of the question, iMO.

Saw it last night. I don't know if it was the sound or the performance, but Skeletor was hard to understand half the time.
