Transformers CyberWorld: Optimus STILL Hates Spiders

The dance game was great, very amusing.

Kinda wondering if it was Bee and not Optimus who got them trapped in Cyberworld, though.
Also, do we really know these Bots are all who they say/think they are? Maybe it's too twisty for a kids show, but what if they aren't Cybertronians at all, just programs copied from the "real" ones?

Sounds familiar....

New toys!
Reminder that Armored Wave 3 is still due for June, but we’ve yet to see any official images of Ratchet or what the refresh of Airrachnid will entail. Remember that the Energon Surge refresh is trading out the gimmick weapons from the first 3 waves for a pile of translucent Energon Armor (cross compatible with other figures in the line)

But nune at TFW found some official images for the next wave of CyberChangers and the refreshed Armored Bumblebee. Next wave of basic CyberChangers seems to be refreshes for Optimus Prime, Optimus Primal, and Megatron (trading out chucks of their molds for new translucent parts, blue for Autobot, purple for Decepticons) with the sole new release being Jazz, sporting a polar bear alt mode (and seemingly sharing engineering with Cheetor). Plus an image of the Deep Sea Soundwave, in all his Sharkticon, tentacled, glory.

There remains a part of me tremendously sad that the collector lines and kids lines have diverged SO MUCH that some of the most novel ideas get lost or compromised because they’re being made to the overrated standard of the collector range. Which itself has increasingly devolved into remakes upon remakes.

After a few neat little things in the early waves, I'm content to sit this line out entirely. MAYBE I'll get the Frying Dutchman Scourge.

It's not a particularly rational vibe but the lack of articulation is actively undermining how interesting some of the designs are. And this toy commercial has gotten stale as hell.

I sang this show's praises in the beginning, but it does feel like they only planned as far ahead as the initial goal of getting past Scorponok and reaching the shuttle, and production caught up before they figured out what to do next.

At least they're finally now trying to explore the possibility that Optimus may have been responsible for their being in Cyberworld, which is creating some much-needed drama and friction to shake up the dynamics enough to show more sides of the characters, like how we're now getting more backstory for Bumblebee, revealing how he wasn't always an Autobot and hinting at him having a past as an unaligned neutral or possibly even something worse.

It's not enough. I miss Megatron. He added a lot to this show while he was around.

Written out like that it sounds interesting, but to actually watch it and just see various remixes of the same "do stuff-dramatic pause-OPTIMUS NO-reassuring dialogue-dramaric hint at something" sequence for a few episodes, it just goes flat.

And things were already flagging after the big objective they were working toward was just dropped. Like sure, "with a story-based reason", but if you're going to just swerve the objective the entire first chunk of episodes was building toward, there has to be a satisfying reason. And a mystery that's handled like this is not that.

I wish I could say Megatron would make things more interesting, but he showed up a handful of times to just be cryptic (which we have more than enough of) and a dick (which is fun but this needs more than that). Starscream's whole deal of carving out a little fiefdom for himself has potentially been more interesting, but they've also just treaded the same ground with that.

Megatron alone can't save it but he was part of a dynamic that worked. He was completely unreliable but they might have to work with him. Meanwhile Grimlock was completely reliable when he feels like it. Even though there was no real progress towards the apparent endgame it was a fluid situation.

I've been really sick for the last several days, so I haven't gotten to see this yet, and now I'm not looking forward to it, much less reviewing it.

Also, Energon Surge Bumblebee looks like Nightbeat to me.

Was placing an Amazon order and noticed that Optimus Primal was back in stock:

He certainly looks more Primal than Prime in robot mode. Standard Cyberworld articulation, so elbows and neck joints would really elevate this design.

Truck mode is...interesting. I feel like the front is meant to invoke a gorilla face. The overall truck sort of feels like a dump truck, reminding me of g1 Landfill or Energon Demolishor.

The 5mm ports help make up for lack of articulation. Really wish we had weapons packs for these guys to actually get some upgrades. Thankfully, RotB helped me fix that oversight.

More official pics of upcoming figures including in-package.

I'm not sure if Cheetor being a snow leopard is something that's been officially said anywhere or just TFW assuming because that's more consistent with his colors than a cheetah...but his name is still Cheetor and his biome is the tropical one.
I really don't get why he's "Cheetor" but not remotely cheetah-colored, especially when the other colors he has instead are so similar to Jazz in the same line.

Two weeks late, they finally uploaded Episode 28 by itself (reminder that Episode 29 already released two weekends ago):
