Didn't they already do opaque Jazz in that 5 pack with Wheeljack, Hound, Sunstreaker and Trailbreaker?
Yeah, this 3-pack feels like a companion piece to that 5-pack.Didn't they already do opaque Jazz in that 5 pack with Wheeljack, Hound, Sunstreaker and Trailbreaker?
Yeah, but I'd appreciate another shot at the Jazz. Some of the others have found second releases in the same opaque window format, but Jazz got a couple of clear windowed reissues (SS86 and a deco tweak for DCS). Maybe release him individually and swap in, idk, Ratchet so it's another Voyager with 2 Deluxes.
Additionally, Sentinel is an IDW design based off of a remould of a separate IDW design, which itself was passed through the same aesthetic filter they used for the WfC trilogy. Sentinel has these deco'd and moulded design flourishes that should have him right at home next to ER Optimus and Siege Megatron, but will look out of place next to SS '86 Megs and Optimus' flat Sunbow styles.Yeah, that's why I still haven't bought SS Prime. I'm perfectly happy with the Earthrise one, both in general looks and better scaling with most every other figure I own. I did buy SS Megatron, but he's off on his own standing on my desk while Siege Megatron leads my shelves of Decepticons.
I looked up the lineups after posting and yeah, those are still in need of redoing. I can wait on Red since the clear plastic on him isn't as pressing a structural concern. Skids I'm generally happy with but the roof/windshield can be scary. Tracks needs a new mold if that's possible, but at minimum an opaque plastic run of the old mold (with tweaked legs). Way too much clear plastic being relied on to do scary things.I’d assume if/when they do another 3 pack it’ll be Ratchet, Smokescreen, and likely either Tracks, Skids, or Red Alert since they still need painted window versions.
There are enough toys without releases in one category or the other that you'll never have a collection that's all clear or all painted. I wholeheartedly agree with the ugliness of the sky blue. I end up painting over them with a less saturated metallic blue, glossy black or metallic dark gray.I've said my piece on SS86's lack of consistency enough times that I'm not going to waste any more time on it at the moment. I mainly wanted to chime in on the opaque redecos to say I still really want a Hound redeco with a clear windshield. I don't have strong feelings one way or the other, but he's the only one that doesn't match all the rest! I'll add that while I don't particularly care about whether the windows are clear or painted, I don't really like the sky blue they tend to use on virtually everything these days. It's better than fake cel shading, but otherwise it's the worst looking option IMO.
If you're happy to use some paint and compromise, you could try painting clear blue paint over the painted windshield to give a similar effect.I've said my piece on SS86's lack of consistency enough times that I'm not going to waste any more time on it at the moment. I would vigorously recommend against clear paints until you've got some experience working with other types of paint under your belt.
That said, if Exatron were open to that, I imagine discussing what the stock releases were would be somewhat moot.
I also really hope that at some point we get a toy-deco version of Hound in dark green plastic with a clear windshield. I know that clear plastic has some longevity concerns, but I do much prefer the look of it.
