That would make the frame a lot more meaningful than just a brute force way to make a more stable combiner.

That's the kind of imagination we're missing these days. Today's designers are brilliant, but nobody's thinking "How will the bios explain this?" anymore.

It's better. Ideally Nexus is the combiner, not a component of the combiner, but facilitating a combination that's not usually possible would be an acceptable secondary gimmick.

I actually prefer Nexus being the component that makes combiners possible. Having him be the combiner always felt backwards to me. In that version, where the combined bot was a singular member of the original 13 Transformers, he felt like more of a Magmatron than a Devastator - a single bot who could split into pieces rather than a new entity formed from a combination of others. Having him be a single bot who can combine with others feels truer to the concept IMO. I would have preferred it if he were a universal torso, but being the prototype torso works. The idea of having him become a frame is interesting.

Anyway, given where we're at, I'd really love to see a Heatwave (presumably renamed) who could become the frame for the Nexus combiner. It would help complete the FunPub homage and sidestep the issue of getting a frame out there as a complete standalone product without having to repurchase Nexus.

See, I would play with it like the Aligned novels seemed to:

Nexus was the combiner, who could split into pieces as needed --but then those separate parts started to self-actualize. After a few million years (a generation, in TF terms) they are individuals.

If you ask them which of them is actually "Nexus Prime," they'll answer "all of us. And none of us."

"By your powers combined, I hurt like HELL to step on..."

*cuts to a scene of Unicron standing on Cybertron, screaming and holding his foot Lego-Brick style*

So how much does it actually cost to complete that disk...? I really haven't been paying attention to who is in what size class.

That is one major retool of the Bludgeon/Tran mold

However, I'm thinking of passing, frankly the disk thing is a waste of space to someone who hasn't bothered to collect all of the so called Primes

With Vector, I suspect its more likely they'll use the same figure as before only give him a new sword and paint job to match a repaint done of the original Cybertron figure for the Universe line I think it was

Couldn't the toy be colored like the promo art? Much like the triple changing Sentinel from a few years back he feels too monochomatic and needs more variation of color. The whiplash i felt looking at that gorgeous box art and the the bland yellowish slab after scrolling down a bit was jarring.

Is his vehicle mode being shaped like a snail intentional?

And yeah, the art, with the much higher contrast between the orange and yellow, looks better than the figure itself seems to.

Though I'd really rather have FFoD Sentinel (or really, any of the blue and orange/gold designs) over the IDW one anyway.

It would make no sense to invest the cost of modifying the tools or creating new ones for no reason other than to add a post on the sword hilt. If the sword is a new/modified mold, there's no way the figure doesn't also have some retooling. How much new tooling is certainly a question, but it would be downright shocking at this point to see him be just a redeco with a new sword.

I'll be looking forward to getting this. I'll be happy to replace TR Sentinel. Never cared all that much for that version. I'm glad that it looks like they left Optimus's name off the disc (the Conduit mentioned in the leaked listing?) for those of us who don't like his being the thirteenth.

I had been hoping for a FFoD Sentinel, but I have to admit, that looks amazing.

Also, have to admire that his altmode is "curl-up-in-a-ball-and-hide"
The alt mode is actually fairly accurate to IDW Sentinel's first alt mode.

FFoD Sentinel would have been nice, and I'm sure he'll happen at some point, but I'm loving this.

It might be just the pictures lighting as they are on grey backgrounds instead of white

Don't underestimate Hasbro's greed, they pretty much milked the WFC/Earthrise Sideswipe mold, far more than the Earthrise seeker mold which has been their normal mold type for milking and if you look at the Amarda Nemeis prime figure, its pretty much the same Optimus prime with one change a new head and then packaged with some new Minicons, so with Vector Prime it could be a very similar case, where they change the colours, change one thing on the figure and then maybe package him with a updated verison of his Minicon
