This is the Transformers equivalent of the Original Trilogy Special Editions isn't it?
Yes and No

Yes, because the previous SIXTEEN RELEASES were literally reissues with improved articulation.

No, because when they first announced the line they said it *could* be this and now it has come to pass…

Yeah, it's basically a tagline of how this line is a hypothetical what-could-have-been made into reality.

Here's how it would would look with just a subtle resculpting to take the Sunbowness out of the shoulders. And relocating the forearm kibble to wherever, because Diaclone arms just do not look like that.

The main thing filtering all the words that have been trying to escape my head since this was revealed is that it does look good. Don't tell me it looks convincingly like a Diaclone design. Don't tell me this is exactly what Missing Link has been since day one and I just hallucinated otherwise. Do not.

But if your take is "*shrug* I just like how it looks"... I agree. I like how it looks too. To me this is the best looking toon-inspired Ironhide they've ever made. Toon stylings with toy details is an aesthetic sweet spot that's been neglected since Masterpiece went full toon and Generations eventually followed. I'm glad something is doing that again. If they stuck this in Generations or made up a new label for it I would love it. But it's not Missing Link.

This is 100% Missing Link. It is just not the Missing Link that any of us thought would be possible or likely. The thing that I am trying to figure out now that preorders have gone up, is where the $129 worth of value is, because as neat as it is, IMO, it isn't worth that.

It’s “Missing Link” the same way all the live action films are in one coherent timeline.

IE, the people in charge tell you something that is wholly at odds with what they’re actually producing but their word is canon so…it is.

No. Thats just dumb.

This is actual Missing Link. It's a toy "Ironhide with an actual humanoid Robot Mode" that did not exist is 1984/5 that Transformers fans have been loudly wishing existed since 1984/5. That is 100% what Missing Link is about... filling in the holes of the past with what might have been. Heck he's not even the first to create a whole new toy design to do it as Arcee was exactly the same situation.

Like him or don't like him, but he's absolutely true to the core of Missing Link as a toyline.

Whatever you tell yourself to sleep at night.

Edit:
Heck he's not even the first to create a whole new toy design to do it as Arcee was exactly the same situation.

Yeah sure if you ignore how Arcee had a prototype designed for her back in 1986 and the ML toy is 'What if the prototype design was actually finished and released'. Unless there was somehow some prototype Sunbow-accurate G1 Ironhide/Ratchet mold out there that we've never seen before, this is absolutely not 'exactly the same situation'.
