So…not 1:1 but it does have a new “old” version. I’m happy with the overall changes but I can totally understand some people being miffed.

Would still love this as a WFC/mainline take on Ironhide. And if I were collecting this line I'd prefer an articulated G1 headless toy with an optional upgraded mode. But I'm not so, okay. I do like that they gave it a way to have an optional half-upgraded mode.

I'll leave it to actual Missing Link collectors to determine how well this works for them.

I can't wait to see pictures of this with the other 1985 Diaclone toys!

It's such a cool thing to have a Diaclone Ironhide that actually looks like Diaclone Ironhide for the first time in 42 years.

-ZacWilliam, I obviously want this. I also want Ratchet and I will absolutely buy Guard. Although I'm still waiting on a Red Sunstreaker so...

Called it!

It's not a 1:1 recreation of Diaclone Ironhide, but it's pretty close. I dare say the back *may* be removable to further the look.
I'd hope so. I like it, but would definitely like that more.

Makes me wonder what the third-party folk will do to make it go all the way.

Actually, have there been any Missing Link upgrade kits yet?

Say, think he's based on this?

If I still cared about having a G1 collection (either original or ML), I'd really like this. I'd gladly take him over the G1 toy, which I never had any interest in whatsoever. Moot point though, since I've largely left G1 toys behind in favor of more modern versions. There are only certain characters I still hold onto G1 versions of, and Ironhide isn't one of them.

I still don't know how to put words to it. I have never felt this way over a reveal before.

If anyone is buying Missing Link because it looks like the original G1 toy in var mode, THEY might be the ones who should just buy a reissue (except for Sunstreaker/Cordon).
My point was that it still has the Nissan Vanette alt mode, so it's something that can fit in with a first-year G1 Autobot collection if someone wants it to.

That, and because I will never, ever, use the meaningless term "var mode." It's either "vehicle mode" or "alternate mode" or, in pure desperation, "car mode."
Why do you hate fun? ;)

I may change my mind with other pictures down the road, but for now at least this is a pass.

There is no universe in which Takara designed a Diaclone Nissan Vanette bot that looked like that. It's too blatantly modern in too many spots. Those just are not Diaclone limbs.

I'll admit it looks cool as its own thing seeing the full color photos but Takara going 'This is Missing Link Ironhide' is just...no man. Hell no. You can call it that but that jive does not fit in with the rest of the line.
I think this is the best way to sum up my thoughts. This is a really cool figure, a largely Sunbow Ironhide robot mode with the G1 toy vehicle mode. I'm excited for it! (Though not excited to see the price tag.)

...but it doesn't really fit in with the older figures outside of vehicle mode. The previous ML figures could easily be mistaken for the G1 originals; even Arcee fits the look of the 86 movie figures. This Ironhide looks almost too polished for a G1 figure. I like it a lot as it's own thing, but I'm not sure where in my collection it would belong (outside of an all-Ironhide display).
