It's $60 physical, $50 digital, USD. So they definitely won't be paying $70. At least not in the States.

There's more to it than just the original, how much that entails right now is anyone's guess. We know there are cutscenes and cinematics that are brand new, and it's fully voice acted, we know there's a brand prologue (though we have no idea if it's playable or not yet) - and we know the multiplayer has new things and the challenges seem new, or at least expanded.

I have a sneaking suspicion there's a new epilogue as well. But that's a me theory based on what the prologue seems to set up - cause James' fate is left surprisingly open ended, imo.

Any way I'm excited and this is actually going to be my first Star Fox game. I just could never get into the game play, I am not great at ship based shooters, but between my fiance really wanting this (she is the biggest Star Fox fan I personally know) and the improved graphics/easy setting feeling like I might be able to follow the gameplay better - this is an easy day one for me.

Its becuase its basically the only Starfox game that actually sales.

Maybe if any of the other Star Fox games actually played or felt like Star Fox games...

Adventure was an unrelated Zelda clone by Rare that got hijacked by Miyamoto into being a Star Fox game.

Assault was an on-foot run and gun shooter.

Command had that stylus-only control scheme.

Star Fox Zero might have been okay, had it not been for the way it used the GamePad. I was hoping it would get the Switch port treatment so I could try it without that, but here we are instead.

Seriously, if they all had their own IP attached (and one was supposed to), you'd never even guess they were all part of the same franchise. They feel about as connected as the first South Park game, South Park Rally, and Chef's Love Shack.

Diversity in spin-offs and side games is one thing, but when the entire franchise is nothing but that and remakes of the original...

Meanwhile, I'm over here wishing the original Star Fox got a bit more love like this. I've even seen people suggest incorporating the levels from that game into this one. I'd be down for that.

While we're on the subject, I find it odd that, in a world of "Fine, I'll just make my own ____ game, with blackjack and hookers" indie projects, and despite the obvious appeal to suspiciously wealthy furries who could fund such a thing, I've never seen any serious efforts to make an indie StarFox clone. Or even a genuinely-copyright-infringing-and-lawyer-summoning fan game like there's been with stuff like Metroid and Pokémon. Maybe that's telling. Maybe there really aren't many good ideas to be had for how to make much more out of this concept than already exists.

Allow me to introduce you to Wild Blue Skies...

Even better?

Wild Blue Skies is developed by Chuhai Labs, a Japanese studio that used to be known as Vitei and was founded by Giles Goddard — one of the key programmers on the original Star Fox. So there’s a real pedigree for the studio behind Wild Blue Skies, and it’s abundantly clear right from the jump that the game is not shy, in the least, about emulating Nintendo’s franchise.

That's from this preview, and there are more out there if you do a search. Overall, reception seems positive so far.

It's due out this year.

There's also another I have on Xbox, but I forget the title right off the top of my head. I'll try to report back on that later.

They'll have to release a demo of this Starfox games Corneria mission otherwise I have it on N64 Classics.

Also maybe Nintendo could explore remakes or new updates of games we haven't seen in decades, Eternal Darkness, Geist, Chibi-Robo, that sort of thing.

And send hired goons to rough up someone to bring Rogue Squadron back to Nintendo consoles.

Well, they're officially raising the price of the Switch 2 by $50 starting September 1.

Can't really blame them given everything going on. And it's not quite as bad as I feared it could be. But, still, it's unfortunate. If you've been on the fence, now might be the time to snatch one up at the lower price.

There's also price hikes coming for Switch Online subscriptions. But, so far only ones for Japan have been announced. But, I'm sure they'll raise prices globally, eventually.

As for the new Star Fox remake...I think I'm not the biggest fan of this art style? It's not terrible or anything, but I kind of wish they went with a more anime-inspired aesthetic, or something else a little more stylized. Especially after showing us a scene from the Galaxy movie, which just feels a lot more lively and energetic. It just feels...awkward and a little stiff by comparison.

And I'm not the biggest fan of how dark some of the lighting in the levels themselves seem to be. Different bosses and ships lose some of their detail when they're shrouded in shadow like they seem to be in this game.

But, I do see what they're going for. They're trying to appeal to the Western market with this art style. A more serious and more realistic look. More of a focus on the story and drama. We'll see if it works or not.

And I tend to agree that we need to move on from remaking Star Fox 64's story over and over again. At least...move on to remaking Star Fox 2 or something! I don't know. Just give us some sort of a new villain, just for some variety, already.

But, despite not liking the art style, the cutscenes seem to be done well. And the voice tracking technology is actually kind of neat. And the voice acting seems pretty solid so far. The quality seems to be there. It seems like this will be a solid version of Star Fox 64. Maybe even the best version!

I do wonder how quickly they made this game, though? Did they push out this game relatively quick in order to release close to the Super Mario Galaxy Movie in order to capitalize on that cameo?

Kind of makes me wonder if they'll do something similar for the Zelda movie, whenever that releases. Maybe we'll get another cameo of some other less-popular franchise character and then a remake of their game will drop. Kid Icarus, perhaps? That might fit in with Zelda's world well enough. Although, Zelda 2 could use a remake, itself.

kind of surprised since I have seen the Switch 2 on sale constantly since Christmas.

Sales or not the current economic situation between tariffs, the war having a major impact on shipping and fuel costs and the skyrocketing prices of chips and ram made this inevitable. Roughly $50 with a 4 month window before it starts is better than the other console manufacturers have managed at least.

I'm ashamed to say that I not only immediately preordered it yesterday (payday), but I also ordered a Switch2- N64 Controller in anticipation for this.

I actually kind of wonder if one simply begat the other. Given the lead times on animated films and games, it is entirely possible that it was Illumination’s push for the Star Fox cameo that prompted Nintendo to get this remake into production. Or Nintendo actually DID have this game under development while the movie was being made and pushed for the cameo as “stealth marketing”. Because in story terms, Fox’s role could have been filled by any number of Nintendo cannon, including Olimar (who DID get a cameo), Kirby, Captain Falcon, or even Samus if they were getting spicy about it.

In terms of Zelda, there’s been a number of building rumors that Nintendo has some sort of Ocarina of Time remake in development. It remains to be seen what “kind” of remake it ends up being, whether that’s something like this where modern graphics and presentation are layered on top of the original N64 game structure..or a more extensive remake that incorporates the last 30 years of refinements into OoT’s game design.
Given recent “Market conditions”, it might benefit Nintendo to announce/tease such a game this summer, even if it doesn’t actually release until closer to the release of the Zelda film.

Has Nintendo ever done such a thing to any game? I know the Wind Waker remake had some minor quality of life improvements, but that's all that comes to mind.

Usually it has the new systems gimmick, Switch 2 has mouse mode but nothing more then what Switch had.
Starfox 64 3D already used 3DS gyro and 3D effect so this might use mouse mode.

OOT could be as bloated as FF7 remake with side missions, more cutscenes and characters.

Nothing could ever be as bloated as the Final Fantasy VII remake; it's taken up two whole full-price games so far and still isn't done!

Wait, I thought the upcoming "Star Fox" was just "Star Fox Zero" but with the intrusive aiming gimmick shunted to the 2-player mode like it should've been on Wii U.

How much of a remake does it take to qualify? I wouldn't count something like the 3DS versions of OoT & MM, but there have been plenty of times when Nintendo has done a full remake of an older game, with varying degrees of changes to the core gameplay.

Off the top of my head, Link's Awakening on Switch is a full 3D remake of the original, albeit largely playing the same. The first two Metroid games got full remakes in Zero Mission and Samus Returns. Pokemon remakes (Fire Red, Heart Gold, Onega Ruby, etc.) all fully remake the games in line with whatever's current at the time. The DS Fire Emblem games are remakes of the Famicom games, but again fully remade as then-modern games. I'm not familiar enough with Mario games past the N64 to comment on their remakes.

Of those, Samus Returns jumps out at me the most. It has the same core story of the original and still plays like a 2D side scroller, but otherwise it's an entirely different game. It feels much closer to Dread than Return of Samus.

There's a spectrum ranging from just a Remaster to full-on Remake.

The 3d version of Link's Awakening changed so little that I'm actually leery of calling it a remake, whereas the Metroid remakes are about as different as you can make something while still claiming that it's the same game.

From the sounds of things, the new Star Fox isn't going to be anywhere near as extreme as the Metroid remakes, but I'm hoping that it'll be close. Including new content would be a good thing.

....

Still kinda surprised that Nintendo didn't ask Ubisoft to make a Star Fox game using the Starlink gameplay.

Links Awakening had dungeon maker and dampe but that was it. Majoras Mask finetuned the game and added a fishing shack.
Zero Mission had a post game, Pokemon FRLG and ORAS had post game stuff as well as implemented the mechanics of their respective gens.
Nintendo (well, their second party) were lazy l with Pokemon BDSP.

I do wish Starfox '26 aims higher and has a post game like a new mini-campaign with extra missions taking it to planets introduced in Assault and Command but it seems unlikely.

So, does Nintendo even acknowledge Krystal's existence anymore? Like, aside from an assist trophy in Smash, I don't think we've seen her at all since Command.
