yeah cuz it's a repackage of that one generations selects multipack version that swapped out the transparent plastic parts that had to be painted over in yellow with opaque yellow plastic (that instead just paints the windows blue)

Is there a single-pack version of Jazz with the same transparent plastic - to - opaque swap?
Not at the moment. They keep rereleasing the normal SS86 Jazz with the transparent plastic.

Its been a good week for finding things in the wild.

Soundwave....LOVE him. Not a fan of the cassettes in this one. I feel like they missed the mark. Cassette bots from Earthrise / Netflix are better IMO. When I have more time I want to get my Netflix Soundwave and cassettes out and do more side by side looks.

Astrotrain....What up slim? Skinny torso, skinny legs. Helmet covers up his eyes too much. I flipped the chest piece out, took me about 5 seconds to be tired of the gap now in his stomach. I think if he was upscaled to a leader or commander size, bot mode would look better. The lower leg / feet dont do it for me either. The more I look at him, the more of a generic Decepticon grunt I see. Honestly, kinda wish I had not bought him just based off of bot mode. I was excited when I saw him in the store and FOMO took over.

Sunstreaker. Obviously have not opened him yet. I just got the Target reissue a couple of months back but had not opened him yet because I was sad of the different shades of Yellow. Think Ill be very happy with this version. my first thought is his head looks a little small.

While I think Astrotrain's robot mode is janky, I still want him because the steam engine mode looks like the best steam engine altmode any Transformers toy has ever had, and I'm a sucker for steam engine altmodes.

This Astrotrain looks terrible. I'd love to chat with whoever designed it, because I have a long list of designs I'd like him to try next. Like, I'm tired of designers trying to make Broadside cool. That's just not who he is. I want a proper dorky toy style Broadside. I have complete confidence that this designer could nail it.

Hasbro, if you want an answer to Missing Link, put this designer in charge. He was born for this assignment.

Very cool that you found that haul in the wild, @Darth_Prime. It's always such a nice dopeamine hit when I find something I want while I'm out and about.

I don't fault you for wanting to snag Astrotrain but yeah, that bot mode is just a page-one re-write, IMO. Soundwave looks great, but the cassettes are either a lateral move or a full step down for me.

I feel like design compromises have always been inherent to our hobby but of late, it feels like there are a lot of compromises being made. These coupled with the increasing cost/value scale are frustrating and disappointing to experience.

A “compromise” would’ve been another Studio Blitzwing (old mold recolored) for Astrotrain.

They instead made a whole new mold that strikes the great majority as *worse* than the old one in every single way except height.

Interpreting this literally brings to mind the Blitzwing mold in Astrotrain colors. ;)

The steam engine altmode is also an improvement.

Every train transformer my nephew has is in train mode hanging around his Sodor stuff, so I'm not sure how to accurately counterargue that...

Maybe they're just REALLY good at disguise?
