Lots of Vikings fans in the Midwest, so that doesn't seem like that odd of a choice.
Foosball (because its the devil! 😜 ) is not really my thing, so these have only been tangentially on my radar, has anyone picked up enough of them to compare parts? I was under the impression that they were essentially identical except for a couple of alternate head designs and their colors; if this is truly the case, it does seem baffling why they would cut the wave assortment to 3 when 4 would cover all 32 teams in 8 waves?

That said, the Walmarts that have started carrying these around here only have 2 of the 4 in the first wave, and price labels kind of seem to indicate they only plan to have those 2, so maybe Hasbro is adjusting waves to meet orders?

Damn, I'm not a sportsball guy anyway, and I don't really have any connection to those teams, but those are some good looking colorschemes on those molds. Bliz-herd is straight up Fooseball Jazz in robot mode, and Skolgrin is a Decepticon bruiser if I ever saw one.

I have friends with kids who are huge Vikings fans; may have to pick up a couple Skolgrins as gifts...

I might get one if I run into it at the store. I have a late uncle who was a huge Vikings fan, and even had a pretty strong resemblance to the Viking mascot, so I guess I do have some personal connection there.

Totally going to cover that Autobot symbol with a 'Con one, though.

I hope the eventual Lions version will at least honor the Megatron connection with a Decepticon symbol. They've all been Autobots so far. It would probably be a step too far for the NFL license, but I'd love it if they went ahead and gave it BM Megatron's control harness helmet too.

I'm amused by the fact that these are packaged in robot mode.

I wonder how many people getting these more for the NFL connection and because "Oh, I used to watch Transformers when I was a kid" or "Hey, my friend got me this because I like this team" are going to be able to get them into helmet mode.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

I mean... they don't even have colour pictures of the cup... so I feel ya.

But the lesson to take away from it is this: the leafs (until recently.) have always managed to fill the stadium. They have an incredible fan base because they treat it healthy: support the team, and don't let the losses bother them.

Gotta make it clear that these are action figures and not merely undersized toy helmets.

And every mass retail TF toy is packaged in robot mode these days.

Which confuses me no end: is more cases; vehicle mode is smaller. They could make smaller boxes in vehicle mode.

Didn't they package G1 in vehicle mode anyway?

And this is why Hasbro is currently in their century of humiliation.

They're going against how God wants Transformers packaged

Personally, I do find the football helmet modes to be the more boring of the two.

Robot mode makes sense to me here, because helmet mode would be received with "oh, look, a tiny replica helmet", as that sort of product makes sense for this branding. Might be neat to have helmet-mode packaging that's like the old bubble Alternators boxes.

What I might advocate instead is more of an indication that this is a robot AND a helmet, a stronger association than that tiny altmode picture on the front of the card.

Make the card shaped like a white helmet cutout/silhouette (maybe with a monochrome print of a blank/generic helmet on it). Then have the Transformer in a running pose (similar to the stock images here) rather than a diving-for-the-ball/Superman pose. The robot and the logos could provide the pop of color, on top of the helmet-shaped card.
