This was brought to my attention this week. Gender affirming care providers, particularly those that treat trans youth, are being legally harassed by the federal government, and those that don't surrender are forced to burn money to defend themselves in court. Even in the case above, where the provider won, the DOJ just appealed the decision to drag out the legal battle even longer.

Once again I'm glad I'm in MD now. State actually has laws on the books protecting access to gender confirming healthcare.

Just now, a national trans healthcare felony ban for youth has passed the US House, with 10 year prison terms. 3 Dems crossed party lines to vote to jail providers. 4 GOP crossed party lines to vote against. It is not expected to pass the Senate, where Dems hold filibuster power. Story to come.

Republicans voting against the felony national trans youth healthcare ban were Brian Fitzpatrick (PA), Gabe Evans (CO), Michael Lawler (NY), Mike Kennedy (UT). Dems voting FOR the felony ban were Henry Cueller (TX), Vincente Gonzalez (TX), Don Davis (NC). 3 NVs on both sides.

Republicans in the House of Representatives passed a bill yesterday that, if passed by the Senate and approved by the president, would force teachers across the country to out trans kids to their parents and also ban schools from acknowledging that trans people exist.

The House passed the “Stopping Indoctrintation and Protecting Kids Act” (H.R. 2616) yesterday in a 217 to 198 vote. 208 Republicans and eight Democrats voted in favor of the bill, while 198 Democrats and zero Republicans voted against it. The names of the eight Democrats who voted for it are below.
