He-Man, and also the Masters of the Universe

Retailers don’t seem to care much, but Mattel is really putting some major efforts into what this film might provide the brand. A number of items are popping up for preorder across retailers, with a better indication what will be exclusive.

Target is actually putting out preorders for Origins Movie product, including the Fright Fighter, He-Man and Spikor. While they are preorders, it seems you can still leverage the current toy sale on them ($5 off $30, $10 off $50). Also available for preorder is the kids roleplay Power Sword
Confirmed from other sources that these Origins offerings are exclusive to Target.

Speaking of Origins, Mattel Creations will be offering the movie Beast Man Deluxe Origins figure on April 20. Not clear yet if this will be a Creations exclusive or just a “first offering” before a wider roll out. Ooh, check out them soft goods…

And it seems Walmart will be getting Origins movie Trap Jaw as an exclusive

Amazon put up preorders for the Core line He-Man and Sky Sled vehicle. The Sky Sled was briefly seen in the recent trailer, and He-Man sports a tweaked deco. This will be an Amazon Exclusive for release June 1

Amazon also has preorders up for the previously seen Battle Pack with exclusive Goat Man, confirmed Amazon Exclusive
…And the Chronicles two pack with Ram Man and Fisto, also Amazon Exclusive

And not content with action figures, Amazon has Brick Shop listings up for two additional sets (in their “Nano World” micro figure styling):
Eternia Flight Fight, seemingly based on the forest battle peaked at in trailers. Set features a Roton, Fright Fighter, Sky Sled and Wind Raider (?), with 10 nano figures.
Attack of the Collector, featuring the wonderfully Filmation inspired Collector ship, the “Courtyard of Heroes” area, and 12 nano-figures (including a jumping Man At Arms, as featured in the recent trailer)

So the local Walmart put out a box of very smashed Scareglow figures. The new ones. $20 for a box with a corner crushed. Sure.

Very articulate figure, looks amazing. Has a large halberd-esque weapon. Two extra hands. Well worth it. And, again, is going to look great as a lich.
Extremely disappointed to find that none of the bone details glow under black light.

That’s how they’ll get you to double dip later on :p

New movie toys are due around the end of the month (April 25-28ish, depending on retailer and fricks given), so more press/promo images are cycling out. Among them is official images of Core Mekaneck and the SkeleKnight from wave 2 (which is apt to be co-shipped with wave 1)
Note that Mekaneck DOES have a pair of extender pieces to create that classic “stretch neck” feature. Proper movie images show him with a more nuanced deco…but as a “toy guy”, I’m really digging the bolder palette they are pulling from for this segment.

The SkeleKnight features some damned fine details, and even with the height difference, seems like it would make a solid addition to the Chronicles segment as well.

I’ve said it ad nauseam, and will probably continue to do so, but…I’m still VERY impressed with sheer quality in terms of sculpt, detail and diversity Mattel is putting on display here. Regardless how the film ends up doing, either critically or commercially, NOBODY should be putting any shade at Mattel for the product being made to support it.
I find it VERY hard to look at the offerings across segments and say Mattel is doing a poor job with the product. Compared to Hasbro’s kid lines, it sure feels like Mattel is throwing down a gauntlet of sorts. I’ll be VERY curious how Spider-Man and Avengers products will turn out, even under the more stylized ActionVerse.

The back half of the year should be interesting, if prior major product lines are any indication. I recall Lightyear being a bit of a flop, but I’ll be dipped if Mattel didn’t give it solid support through the holiday season with a massive playset and additional vehicles for the 5” figure segment. I’m positive we’ll see a Castle Grayskull playset for the holiday season.

Catching up, new trailer looks pretty good! I like what we're seeing so far of Eternia and more of the characters, I'm quite OK with the plot that's been revealed so far, and I...don't hate the voice for Skeletor. Overall, still looks like they're getting the vibe right. This is a big dumb 80s action cartoon of a movie, and it still clocks to me like they're embracing that. And yes, I snorted at Cringer being the MGM lion.

Re. Skeletor specifically: we were never going to get nasally, whiny cartoon Skeletor in the movie that's presented, and I'm okay with that. With the caveat of "two spoken lines and half a second of villainous laughter in a trailer", I'm not sure how much I like what they're using (especially since what's in the trailer comes off as kind of Generic pseudoBritish Villain) but I don't hate it. As amusing as the OG Skeletor voice is, to me it's more about...as Megamind said, PRESENTATION! Skeletor can be oily and slick, but as a character he also needs a chance to be bombastic and over the top. One good villain rant. Toss off a few insults. That kind of thing. I suppose it's a credit that I can imagine a good, venomous "Fools! Bunglers!" coming out of this skeleman's mouth.

We’re about two weeks until the official rollout of Mattel’s MOTU film push. Online retailers will start offering Chronicles and non-exclusive products April 25th, and, supposedly, retailers should be putting out product in stores. Given how Mattel handles and markets its lines, I think it’ll be fun just to go to stores and see big displays for He-Man and Masters of the Universe, in general.

Official marketing images are rolling out for Chronicles wave 1/2 (Like Core, I’m kind of expecting both waves to ship concurrently).

Reminder that Fisto and Ram Man are in an Amazon exclusive 2 pack.

Frankly, between this and Origins, I’m eager to see how Core Trap Jaw turns out.

Bah, why settle for a mere toy when they're making a full sized havoc staff. With lights, sounds and smoke effects!

And here's images of Core Trap Jaw. I'm a touch disappointed, it just comes across a bit bland relative to his film and other product portrayals. I don't know if he's one that's suffering from being early concept material, but the figure just feels a touch bland. The blue and grey don't contrast well, it just feels "dull". He really needed a richer blue for his skin and that moss green detail work where they're using a dark navy on this figure. That said, the arm seems feature some interesting gimmicks, like being able swap out to a hook. The sculpt work remains great, but it's clear this is one case where it seems the paint budget really cropped up on the final product. Reportedly, wave mate will be Man At Arms, and no word on a third figure. Given timing, it might just be these two and reruns of He-Man and Skeletor (or paint variants for them).

Limited Run Games has announced that the upcoming brawler Dragon Pearl of Destruction will be delayed into this summer. "Additional development time" was the cited reason.

Because I dig the sword, and wanted to be able to turn into He-Man when I was a kid?

They were found in a land down under….As in Australia.
A fan down under found the herefore unknown Origins interpretations of the film version of Man At Arms and TriKlops. Sadly, they were blocked from purchase due to being locked out of Target’s system due to a street date. This does confirm likely Target exclusivity in the US market.

Mattel isn’t just going all in on the new feature film, they’re doing a full court press! Over in New Zealand, fans have found yet another new product line that hasn’t been announced:
Masters of the Universe Mighty Masters
REALLY similar to the WWE Knuckle Crunchers line, these are seemingly geared to younger kids, while leveraging some STRONG nostalgia vibes with retro-inspired packaging and figures clearly modeled after their vintage 80s toys. Adjusting for exchange, price was around $7.75, meaning you’re probably looking at a 6.99-7.99 retail price in the US.
At around 3” tall, they feature simple articulation, but DO feature some built in action features evocative of the kinds you’d find in the vintage toy line. Just He-Man, Skeletor, Man At Arms and Beast Man, we’ll see how robust the line ends up being or if it sees any expansion to vehicles or even a Grayskull playset.

I’ve seen the WWE Knuckle Crunchers on shelves and immediately thought how nifty a MOTU line at that scale/style would be. Guess someone at Mattel was on the same wave length. Hopefully, MOTU ends up with a more varied character selection than what the WWE line seems to be getting.

Did a search to see if there was any discussion on these. I found the wave at Walmart today for $4.97 each and picked up Man-at-Arms.

Gotta say these are fantastic at the price. Ball jointed neck, clubbing action gimmick that's strong enough to fling his mace after a few swings, and basically identical articulation to the 80s originals. Head, waist, shoulders, legs, and removable armor.

Just a tiny, well-detailed version of the originals tbh. Highly recommend.

I used to love the original Man-At-Arms toy but then I had a terrible manager for a few years that I swear to you looked exactly like that head above.

-ZacWilliam, it's really ruined the toy for me because I can't not think of that guy every time I look at it.

I’ve yet to see them, but I’m quite enamored. For $5? I really hope Mattel keeps them going a while and diversifies the character selection. Them seem like a better take than the Eternia minis were. Glad to see them for $5, and it’s a nice offering for the sub-Core figure range.
