In regards to the Switch 2 production cuts…we’ll see how that turns out. I know the system, in some fashion, seems readily available despite strong initial sales. I think a LOT of sales drop off came from the lack of meaningful follow up from Nintendo, themselves. 3rd Party support was solid enough, but Nintendo really didn’t have a compelling showing last holiday season for the new system.
MKW and Donkey Kong were solid games, but release period and holiday season were dominated by “Switch 1 titles with extra polish”. And most slapped you with an upcharge to get access to that polish if you already had the game. Kirby Air Riders, regardless quality, is NOT a title that will pull in western consumers, with Metroid‘s value undercut by being available on the Switch 1 (and, again, charging consumers money to benefit from the Switch 2’s increased power).
Sales for this coming holiday are going to depend greatly on Nintendo’s offerings, which they remain tight lipped on.
That said, maybe Nintendo themselves just spoiled us too darn much with the Switch’s outrageously solid release cadence for its first 3 years or so (thanks, largely, to milking the WiiU’s failure for cost effective ports).
