If I read the articles/blurbs accurately (who knows with how frequently things seem to change), Iran’s 10 point plan to end the conflict would basically undue the last decade of diplomatic actions to constrain the country’s nuclear ambitions. Will it be agreed to wholesale? Not a chance, but Trump, when pushed, seems to back down more often than not.
Trump has created an ultimate FAFO scenario where there is no “good way” to spin an exit here. Short of complete annihilation, Iran stands to gain more from any “peace deal” than the US. Even if they agree to nuclear conditions, it feels like they stand to gain in control of the Straight of Hormuz, eased sanctions, and a massive political boon in the region.
There is, literally, nothing the US stands to gain aside from maybe some nuclear guarantees. Which has come at the cost of billions of dollars, hundreds injured or dead, and continued long term damage to our standing on the world stage. And war crimes for which I’m not holding my breath for any accountability.
