Wow, this fish light loves the clear orange parts.
Didn't really plan to get the whole set but the chainsword was sold out at the stores I usually buy from, so I didn't mind too much. The set comes with one orange chainsword, new shoulders, internal shoulder joint parts, two cannon armatures, foot boosters, a new spearhead, two sets of arm filler parts, two large flame effects and the mask on the end of the chainsword.
The shoulders are the part that requires the most effort to use. They require removing the old shoulders and the mounted weapons with a screwdriver and placing the new shoulder joint and the new shoulders in their place. Mostly problem free, although it's slightly annoying that the internal joints are placed opposite to the shoulder they're supposed to go with although they won't fit with the wrong shoulder anyway so it's not too bad. New shoulders are very big but I feel work with the bulky body. Color matching's pretty spot on. The shoulders feature an independent shoulder abduction joint that lets the arm move horizontally without moving the big shoulderpad, which has some slight motion. New shoulders feature a 5mm peghole on the top and the screwhole is 5mm as well, allowing for the next accessories.
New flame parts are huge and pretty damn heavy but stay on pretty well. In contrast with the original flame parts, they are all hard plastic. they slot into the ports on the top of the shoulders via a peg on the inside of the top of the flames. It can theoretically be used elsewhere but the shape makes it tricky.
As seen above, the set's centerpiece is a chainsaw sword. The blades don't actually move which is understandable but a slight disappointment. The Fallen's hands can open meaning you can slide it into the hand but for toys with closed fists, the bottom part of the handle can pop off, letting you run the handle through 5mm hands. The tip of the hilt is a separate part and can in theory be removed if you don't like the chain but mine won't budge. The chain is metal coated in black paint and is relatively heavy and a tad long for my tastes. The handle fits into his hand well and the plastic/paint colors of the body match well but I do find that the clear blades being plain orange in contrast to the painted orangey-yellow kinda clash.
The mask at the end of the chain can pop off and fits over his face if you prefer the One look. It looks pretty good, aside from the eyes being a bit small but the problem is that it doesn't really fasten onto the head in any way. It sort of sits over The Fallen's face loosely and will fall off with mild handling. I'll look into it more but it's not my cup of tea anyway, so I don't mind.
The set comes with a holster to keep the sword in. It pegs into any 5mm port and is tight enough to hold the sword up vertically or horizontally. Looks silly either way though. The sword doesn't attach securely, however, and just sits into the holster via gravity. I think a peg on the side of the hilt would have sufficed and worked better.
The kit comes with a larger spearhead. It's similar to the original but the outer prongs are now shorter than the middle prong and are angled closer to straight up. Fits well into the original spear and looks the part. It's mostly an improvement but does drastically change the look of the spear.
The kit comes with filler pieces for the gaps in Megatronus' arms. They slot in and stay in well. I never really minded the gaps but okay. I'm just baffled by the choice of clear purple. The empty slots actually draw less attention since the inside plastic is black. I guess I could paint them but it's still an odd addition.
The kit's last parts are some foot fillers. Again, tolerances are great and they fit into the detailing in the feet. They add around 5mm of height, making them mostly pointless unless you really, really want Fallen to look Liege Maximo eye to eye. I don't bother since the height boost isn't something I'm interested in, the amount added is negligible and they prevent proper transformation. Most damningly, they require the feet to stick out in tank mode instead of folding into the treads.
New tank mode is alright. The new turret is higher in profile and the cannon is pushed farther forward than the stock tank. The tank cannon being farther forward makes me prefer to keep the small barrel extension off. The turret stays together slightly better but not significantly so. There are two armatures that are supposed to hlep move the cannon to a new tank mode position but the instructions show a configuration that simply cannot work. I dunno, this is good enough I guess.. You can use the old flames in the middle section, making a tank that would make Ghost Rider proud. They don't really have anywhere to go in robot mode, unfortunately. As mentioned, using the feet parts means that this tank will have feet sticking out the back.
Lastly, if you bought this from a China-based retailer, you will get a bonus spearhead in gold. Works well enough as an option but again, nothing crazy. Reminds me of the Thunder Megazord's firebird tail spear thing. Disappointingly, you can't have two-ended trident because of the way the spear is constructed.
Anyway, it's not a bad set overall, though admittedly, if the chainsword were feasible to be bought alone I would have done so but in contrast to some of these DNA sets, I think it's a decent value since the only unusable junk are the foot parts. The full set offers nothing essential but it's not a bad value at all if you like the bigger shoulders.
