Sonic 4 teaser, title drop, hype bomb thing.


Cool moment for me as I recognized the background music in seconds and literally shot upright in my seat. Sonic CD is my favorite game in the franchise and I've listened to Sonic Boom dozens of times.

Plus Matt Berry, Ben Kingsley and Nick Offerman joining the cast. And Richard Ayoade, who I'll admit I'm less familiar with the work of past some of his voice acting.

Between it having a story based at least in part on CD, the new cast, and Carrey returning I'm genuinely left feeling like this movie was grown in a lab to appeal specifically to me.

I'm wondering how much of the story will be Sonic CD, Sonic '06, or movieverse original lore. I'm intrigued that the Chaos Emeralds with reflections of the characters mostly lines up with the 35th Anniversary imagery with the most obvious change being a swap of Rouge for Tom & Maddie. And with the trailer showing shattering, could this mean that the Master Emerald is gone? I've got a lot of theories and questions due to how the third movie ended.

In the movies, the Master Emerald is the Chaos Emeralds in combined form.

Yes...but unlike the second movie, the Master Emerald wasn't shown being recovered after the Eclipse Cannon exploded. There wasn't a Chaos Emerald hunt in the third movie because the writers felt it would disrupt the flow of the movie due to the Adventure 2 plot but it's possible they'll do it next movie.

I don't normally watch this channel, but YouTube occasionally recommends it and this one was too intriguing to pass up. Because this is a question I've been asking myself since 2020.


Also, just had to bring up this one-two punch from the commentors:

Sonic one literally hit at the tail end of pre pandemic time. It was a Valentine’s Day release in 2020. A month after it was in theaters, the theaters were all closed. I do think that played a decent bit into it’s success because we got to fondly remember that weird blue hedgehog movie as the last moment of the “before times”.

I saw it and they make discussion points on why the movies work for non Sonic fans and manages to make them invested. Good watch but it's two hours for the unprepared.

Haven't seen the video but I remember that the first Sonic movie still had too many human parts.

In the second movie, I remember nobody in the cinema laughing except for the black lady getting mad at her fiancee secret agent during the wedding. They didn't laugh at the Sonic and Tails dance scene.

Sonic 3 was good tho, I'd say.

I had started doing to research and maths to determine how many books IDW will need to overtake the Archie publication history.

Then I thought IDW could produce a million different Sonic issues throughout the ongoing, one-shots, and mini-series, Archie Continuity Stans will still somehow "Um....ACtuALlY" something out of their backside....

and that just killed all the momentum I had to get an answer.

There's also the Sonic Comic Origins shorts, that were mostly published in the Digests and Magazines. They probably add up to about one issue's worth of content, but were published over the course of about 8 different issues. So, I don't know how to count that.

And, yeah, I'm not sure if we count the Mega Man crossover issues as "Sonic" comics, technically, or not. They do feature Sonic characters pretty prominently. And I would want them included in any theoretical "Omnibus" of the Archie Sonic books. But, yeah, they're kind of a grey area.

This list has 574 total comics listed. But, that's including the ENTIRE Mega Man run and everything.

On the IDW side of things...do we count the crossovers? Like the Justice League and Godzilla crossovers? Because that does add a few issues to the count. Not nearly enough to catch up, but it's something. They're not necessarily "canon", but they are IDW-published Sonic books.

This list has 115 main universe titles. And 27 additional comics so far, which also includes the digital-only comics. So, currently a total of 142 books and still ongoing.

The Archie count had a few different canons/continuities, so if it came from IDW Publishing (I think Godzilla is, but I thought Justice League was DC?), then I'd count it.

Looking a little deeper into the DC x Sonic Crossover...Huh...I don't see IDW actually mentioned on the covers or anything at all. I never really noticed that. I assumed they'd have to be involved since they do have the comic book license for Sonic. I would think they'd at least have to give their nod to okay this. But, all the marketing just mentions DC and Sega. No mention of IDW. And it is technically published by DC. I thought maybe DC would publish the first miniseries, and IDW would get the next one, since they tend to do that sometimes to keep things "fair", like with the DC and Marvel crossovers. But, no, it sounds like DC is publishing the second miniseries, too. So, maybe the DC x Sonic comic doesn't count for IDW's numbers? I'm not sure, now.

Probably this. IIRC, that's basically what happened with UDON for Street Fighter in Archie's Worlds Unite crossover and I think the G.I. Joe/Street Fighter crossover?

Okay, so we're all in agreement that somehow Starline has returned? Sonic recognizes him but gets convenient amnesia, large star shaped hole, Sage comments that the only known person it could be is currently dead...
