New Resident Evil comes out in a week. That kind of snuck up on me. I like Leon but I'm starting to suspect that due to him being the assigned combat protagonist means that the game will be deficient in boulder punching.

Limited Run Games are partnering with a number of companies to deliver some old school Marvel gaming in the Marvel MaXimum Collection. Headlined by the iconic X-Men Arcade game from Konami, it will be joined by a host of other 8 and 16 bit Marvel games.

It's an...odd selection, to be honest. The collection includes 6 "core" games, with many featuring various ports, for a total of 13 "games". The Sega titles are not present (and are probably worth a collection unto themselves), but the offerings are...scattered. "The best" is already out the window by the inclusion of Silver Surfer, Arcade's Revenge is painfully mediocre regardless the platform. Having the arcade version of Avengers is a boon, and the Spider-Man/Venom brawlers are good fun.

But various partners released a LOT of Marvel stuff in the early 90s. Yeah, most of it sucked, but so did Silver Surfer! It's just..odd..to see this mix without notorioius titles like the Spider-Man Game Boy titles, or the LJN X-Men titles. There's enough left to probably warrant another collection...but you probably have the best of the best already in this collection. There just isn't much left besides Sega's stuff (like the Spider-Man arcade game) to really offer a solid "anchor" to another release.

It's LRG though, so the emulation has a high chance of being bad and it'll be delisted in like two years.

Since I’m about the only one here that seems to be interested in Evercade’s retro gaming junk, I’ll keep updating here:
They announced two new collections: Mega Cat Studios Collection 3 (modern indie retro games) and Activision Collection 2 (Atari 2600 stuff). I think the Activision Collection has a slightly stronger title mix, but I still balk at $30+ for just 15 2600 games. And STILL no Chopper Command!

But the big announcement was that, after more than a year since the last one, Blaze is adding another entry in their HyperMegaTech Super Pocket line with a Rare focused entry. Headlined by Banjo-Kazooie, the device has 13 additional titles including a number of ZX Spectrum and NES classics, joined by Conker’s Pocket Tales and the SNES version of Battletoads. The device carries the standardized Super Pocket format, thus lacking an analog stick, so that might make Banjo a bit odd to control.

Worth noting that it isn’t uncommon for some titles to appear on the Super Pocket before ending up on an Evercade collection (the Capcom stuff has been the exception, it seems), and they DID announce a new controller with an analog stick, along with other standard USB controller support.

I've never ordered from Limited Run before. I've never heard good things about them. But I really want that X-Men arcade game.

Ever watch a video game adaptation where the hero is getting their butt cooked and think “why not open their inventory and use an item in the middle of the fight?” These madlads actually did it.

Too bad the movie is kind of mediocre.

Started playing Pokemon Champions. First couple ranks were pretty fun but Ultra Ball onwards is such a slog, with every battle being some variation of Charizard sun, Floette or Archaludon Rain. I really miss the post-game battle facilities. Dumb AI will be dumb AI but the teams were different every time.

I don't even think adding more Pokemon will fix this since it seems a lot of people are just renting the teams Youtubers use.

Played a bit of Resident Evil Requiem to around the halfway point. It’s kind of a mess. The survival horror segments with Grace are really well done, if a bit too scripted but they immediately whiplash to Leon’s action segments that last for like ten minutes tops then switch back.Leon’s also super clunky to handle compared to the RE4 remake for some reason. It’s basically like two half-baked games stitched together.

Also, the chainsaw mechanics are stupid and just exist to give zombies chances to get a lucky shot at you.
