I expected the shoulders and waist to pop apart as well. Wow. So most of the thing is one huge chunk.

Weaponizers and Modulators were great. How are we going backwards?

What the Junkions and rock guys basically being regular transformers with removable forearms and shins didn’t clue you in?

I think that the problem began when they decided that the toys needed to be able to fully transform without any parts coming off. Earlier "-izers" were full on parts-formers and I DID see some people complain about that. The idea of being "real" transformers while still having mix-and-match parts is good in theory, but in practice, it means you pretty much always have a large chunk of robot with a few extremities that come off. The earlier parts-forming ones had much more freedom to break down into lots of small, useful pieces.

I agree that that's part of it. While I do appreciate the close to normal transformation, it's a steep tradeoff.

But then the gimmick kind of hit diminishing returns for other reasons too. I think it's at its best when it's ad hoc, Cybertronian altmodes (Sixgun, who's mostly held back by his guns being weird cones) or ones that can wad up into modes that have a coherent shape (the Modulators, Slammer). The Junkions were harder to make work because as armor bits they were more obviously 1/4 a car, a bike wheel, etc. I think the Modulators lent themselves best to it, and maybe the Fossilizers (although that was also hit or miss). Part of the problem is that probably for safety reasons, some parts had to always be riveted together, so you'd always be wielding someone's waist and hip stumps. And "wear chunk of thing as platform boots" can only be done so many times.

The Armorizers idk if I even really want to count since it was basically pop off a lower arm or a shin plate, whatever. They seemed to do the least. Although they had more than that undermining them; the bike mold will always look silly, all jagged rock on three perfectly clean and round bike tyres with spokes and everything.

I did appreciate more conventional non-partsforming transformations, but an exception could've been made for Amalgamous. That dude has every reason to basically be Modulok but with gun and vehicle bits (so more than Multi-bot).

The Junkions being big chunks of vehicles works for them, because aesthetically they go very Mad Max "use whatever you've got" anyway. The Fossilizers and Rock Lords were just too different from the tech looks of the rest to blend in at all. They're neat as their own thing but don't really fit the established play pattern.

And yet, Amalgamous doesn't even do that, either. He has to be broken apart in order to become any of the altmodes featured in his instructions.

He can turn into the spider tank without coming apart (aside from the weapon, but that's normal), depending on where you attached the round eye things. Although he's likely to shed his head and maybe his legs in the process anyway.

If it weren't $45 I'd have to get one now just to see if I can find the one that doesn't fall apart.

When I got my Amalgamous months ago, the head kept coming off. I was so annoyed I never bothered to do anything else with him other than stuff him in a bag, yeet him into the AotP box and write him down in my collection log. Rarely have i had the kind of Buyer's Remorse with a transformer. Being the new 'normal' price just made it worse.

Glad I wasn't the only one with the issue of Anus Prime's head.
(I'm now calling him that. Because I'm not going to keep typing 'Amalgamous', and because I think the toy is ass.)

Like I said, the plastic tie that keeps his head attached to his neck in the package is very helpful in keeping his head attached to his neck out of the package.

Granted, the head shouldn't have been that loose in the first place, but c'est la vie.

The port, you mean. The port is slightly wider than the peg.

I didn't get Amalgamous, and I am debating the PO for Liege Maximo myself. There are now multiple reports of the clear bit cracking, and I can't understand why, this late into Transformers engineering, anyone would make a connector port from clear that has to deform in any way. In addition, the early reviews seem to indicate a lot of soft plastic in places where stiffer would have worked better. I love the design, but my bad experiences with clear cracking and soft dissolving are not making me confident, especially after the Ghostbuster Transformers I really loved started having issues. Shockwave has both sorts of plastic too, but at least he (as far as I know and if I'm wrong please tell me!) keeps his clear stuff away from moving parts, and his hose is the only flexible part and doesn't lay on anything.

I was on the fence about Liege Maximo, but if he's really that prone to breakage, he's a pass. Maybe they'll make another version later that fixes it, but Leader prices are too much now to gamble.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Yeah, I'm grateful I got my order for the last of this years transformers in early february. This hobby is about to get more expensive...

This is how I feel about Liege Maximo: I have wanted a toy of him for most of my adult life. Now there is soon to be one. If breakage is something that might occur, I will be very careful. If I am concerned enough about breakage beyond that, I will plunk down whatever the cost is for whatever 3rd party upgrade option I feel will best address the issue.
