Call me obstinate, but I'm not a big fan of using movie aesthetic toys for Gobot redecos?

That said, if those molds were on the table, I would probably use them for either Night Fright, Warpath, or Wrong Way:

Probably use Tomahawk for Night Fright, and the other one for either Warpath or Wrong Way.
Tomahawk isn't really a baysthetic though, IMO. It looks like a CHUG to me.

From the waist up, I would agree. The leg designs seem more movie-style to me, though. The digitigrade-looking legs on vehicle transformers (Beast Wars is another story) is something I don't remember seeing before the movie lines. But, again, just my opinion and personal taste.

I've always kind of liked it when Transformers (and Gobots) has the occasional not-strictly-humanoid robot mode. I wouldn't want them ALL to be that way, but a few here and there helps remind me that these are alien robots. It's a bit more odd for Gobots, since they're human-ish brains in robot suits, but I could see how some of them lose touch with their "humanity" over time and start modifying themselves towards less human layouts.

Yeah, as someone who (since 2001-ish) considers himself a Gobot collector who also collects Transformers, I've certainly seen the general attitude among fans shift more positively in favor of Gobots, but there are still those out there who feel like they can trash on Gobots.

I mean, maybe, but I kinda like Carly, and Spike does have the keys to Fortress Maximus...

Man, now there's a vacation home on another world I'd like to have.

Or this one. It can move around, after all.

What good is having the keys when the car itself keeps whining and begging to be put out of its misery?

Matt Hunter got things done. He was a man of action with a strong will, a good head on his shoulders, and wasn't afraid to call things out when they were nonsensical. He recognized whenever things got weird or cheesy even for 80s cartoon standards and responded with the appropriately warranted wit and sarcasm that any real person would react with. That kind of savvy character writing was rare in 1980s children's advertainment. He even took a few names in his own time in cases where he was the only one left to stand up against the villains of the day ("Lost on GoBotron" is a prime example, as he was put into gladiatorial deathmatches against some ruthless aliens and just narrowly came out on top in each case, even taking out Gorn, the lead alien running the matches).

[Carly] barely ever did anything. Her potential was squandered.
Outside of her first appearance in "The Immobilizer", yes. And we can't even blame Toei for that (who really didn't know what to do with Arcee a couple of years later).

Of course, it's a rare story universe that won't have some case of characters introduced, given potential and plot hooks -- and then the focus goes elsewhere.

At least Nightbird got to be a clone army template.

("Gee, I don't know, Dr., maybe MAKING AN ARMY OF NIGHTBIRDS HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT?")

True, although Spike got one of his most memorable lines thank to Furman leaning into that plot point -- though one wonders how Sunbow-Cerebros would have reacted.

I'm not even talking about The Headmasters. Season 3 alone did her dirty.
Nor was I, save in passing.
I'd probably save "done dirty" for the fate of Ms. I-Have-Two-Surnames-And-I-Would-Scream from Wizarding Karen's Multimedia Juggernaut, but it's not in dispute that, much like Headmasters Arcee (not the Rebirth one, sorry), Season 3/2010 Carly was present, but had very little to do or distinguish herself. Granted that's 50% more than what Chip got for Season 3 (see my prior point about dropped plans and direction changes), but one gets the sense that she was only included so the writers would not have to deal with the ramifications of Daniel being Raised by Robots, or something.

Irrelevant. This discussion is about Matt Hunter > the G1 cartoon humans.
The Guardian allies weren't very prominent in "Echoes and Fragments", were they? At least I don't remember them doing much.

Granted that that story was a bit of a narrative mess (and it was supposed to be, thanks to Sideways and Gong), but the initial premise -- of taking the GoBots cast and putting them through the plot of The Other 1986 Animated Movie -- had quite a bit of promise.

"What happens when Cy-Kill stops getting hammy, and starts getting lethal?"
Not that C.K. wasn't capable of delivering some sharp threats (Cop-Tur was Blackout before Blackout there), but if we thought TF:TAM was unprecedented....

She drove all the way to Cybertron. How many other humans can claim that?

Going by the end of Rebirth? It still kicked Decepticon tailgate, since Spike was at the wheel pretty much the entire time.

Though it's better if car and driver work --
"TOGETHER!!"

That being said, Sabr had a tiny(-font) point -- this is the GoBots thread. (Yes, 1990s corporate acquisitions means that they're part of the Hasbro multiverse (not so much Takara's, For Reasons), but comparisons only go so far.)

I stand by my opinion (which is mine) that "Echoes and Fragments" is a GoBots story, albeit a bit of a missed opportunity in not sticking to its initial premise, even if it results in wild small-d deviations (because Not the Same Cast, and not obliged to do things the same way). Maybe the lack of a MacGuffin Device means that VecTor will have to awaken the First Generation of GoBots to defeat the Monster Planet through The Power of (Strained) Friendship, or something. (We already know that the Fallen's analogue slumbers under the Nazca Lines, so that's one....)

(And since I'm in riff mode, I'm now wondering if a shrink ray was among the plots in Jim Sorenson's "Virtual Season 2".)
