Who's trying to break the internet today?

No, I was aware (I think I still have the movie album kicking around somewhere. There's a rock cover of the national anthem on it which is just awesome.), but it doesn't even make sense in context. Canada is largely lagging behind the world in access to information and digital services. It's a well regulated sector up here, but like 5-8 years behind everyone else cause no one is interested in paying for the infrastructure, as always.

Not like we could influence british regulations anyway.
I am not making a comment about Canada. I am trying to point out how this push for IDs to use VPNs is reminiscent of the plot point in the South Park movie where the parents blame an outside party rather than take responsibility themselves.

They won't. If their argument is "We refuse to comply because we're outside your jurisdiction", the UK will just respond "OK, we're blocking access to your entire site, just like we said we would do to any site that doesn't follow the rules, and in your case we probably should have done that a long-ass time ago. You don't have to follow our rules, and we don't have to let you in." And if their argument is anything else, I can't imagine it holding any water at all. A US-based entity does not get to make demands of foreign governments. At most they can threaten to take their business elsewhere, and that means nothing coming from sites that make no money for anyone and provide no useful services.

Can't really argue with that. Kiwi Farms had to change hosting partners at least once because the one they were using found them too toxic. They use the platform to harass people to the point of suicide and then CELEBRATE doing so.... The people who run that site really should be in prison at this point.

There are plenty of server farms now that simply do not care what you do with your space as long as you pay their fees. Patmos, for instance. I was assigned to guard their burgeoning server farm in KC for several months. They genuinely give zero ***** about what you're doing as long as they're paid.
