Hmm...

Nope... nope.

These aren't firetrucks fighting sharks. Which is fine, don't get me wrong, but someone is going to have to explain the reference to me.

Well, the analogy is obvious. The pack of saber-toothed tigers were the sharks of the time period (Sharks also existed, of course, but were busy in New York fighting the Jets for control of the schoolyard) and I think we can all agree that a mammoth is basically the same thing as a firetruck. They both have hoses/trunks, can squirt water, and go WOO WOO WOO as they drive around flashing their lights.

Skybyte is a great Voyager toy. He looks the part, the transformation’s under control, articulation is reasonable and unlike T30, he’s actually got lower legs this time. Shark mode is alright but the pectoral fins easily could have been ball joints for more expressive articulation and while I don’t miss the dolphin jump pose T30 had, the shark mode in this case seems a bit too stiff. Slightly more curvature would look more natural but eh cyborg shark monster is anything but. The missile launcher accessory is kind of meh. It can attach to the shark mouth and store in the upper jaw but there aren’t any alternative mounting positions and it does nothing for robot mode. Sure he can hold it but it looks like a pair of binoculars. In shark mode, it looks like he’s choking on it.

Also a weird move to for Hasbro to have me bring out the model kit clippers. Not a hassle but yeah, unusual. Last time they did this was TR Broadside? And I left the tiny planes on the runners.

He also never actually ever wielded it in hand in the cartoon.

He only ever used it to shoot torpedo missiles from his shark mouth in beast mode.

They put a 5mm peg on it so they clearly expect you to put it in his hand. It just looks dumb doing so it’s basically stuck on the roof of his mouth/fanny pack when not in use for shark mode.

I don’t really care about why they did it, what I’m saying is the execution just looks stupid. The box covers his hand to be simulate his hand turning into the launcher, I guess? Problem is that the shapes and colors don’t match and Sky Byte never did that either. Even in shark mode it sticks out in an awkward angle that he’d have to aim downwards and be blocked by his nose anyway.

I just leave it in my parts drawer. It doesn’t hurt the figure in any way, it’s just kind of a lame duck accessory.

Well met. I applaud your creativity and ingenuity.

Still don't get what that was really referencing, though. XD

Ha! Sorry, just having a bit of fun. Not really referencing anything, just supposed to be a pack of saber-toothed tigers attacking a mammoth. I realized that I had 3 robot saber-tooths, so I was going to get a picture of them together. At the last minute, I decided that they needed to be doing something, so I put some prey in the picture with them like something out of a prehistoric nature documentary.

I kind of thought it was a reference to the first Ice Age movie.

Any similarity to Ice Age is purely accidental!

I had a hard time trying to get across the idea that the mammoth was under attack. It didn't help that none of the figures in that picture are very poseable.
