First trailer has been posted for this summer’s Fantastic Four reboot from Marvel Studios. Expect Captain America to have a trailer and coverage at next weekend’s Superbowl ad slate. Unless revealed early, expect Hasbro to reveal their toy slate in the coming weeks, particularly at next month’s Toy Fair in New York.

Live stream shenanigans before “launch”

Marvel can deny it, but

Is that how you hold a flag? Also a few people are gripping like they're holding a flag but they're holding nothing.

As for the trailer, I don't know. Too little to tell. I love the setting though. It's not just another present day adaptation That alone will give this film some character.

marvel's doing a lot of work to make me not instantly turn away... but boy howdy then I remember this is the launching pad for downeyDoom and secret wars and I just feel like... I don't know if the ship has already sunk and they're just trying to row along the bottom right now.

I'll have to see Silver Surfer before I get down off this mid-line fence I'm sitting on

...has Reed Richards ever had a mustache before?

That's the only thing that feels especially weird to me.

Okay, I've seen beards and stubble and stuff, but never just a mustache that I can recall.

Yeah, I caught that in a recent ad.

Marvel just can’t help but to “Marvel”. Marketing has spoiled damn near every movie post-Endgame.

MovieBob Chipman has some fascinating notes on the new Fantastic Four. The big interesting thing Marvel seems to have done is that, they let this be a "scifi disaster film", not unlike Star Trek The Motion Picture or The Black Hole. Not another "superhero action flick". There will be the inevitable comparisons to Superman (both kind of vibed to the same general feeling and notes), but he says it's still pretty good, and not just as "a superhero film". And the "spoiler" from the ads...isn't that much of a spoiler after all.

IGN wasn't as enthused.

Both reviews comment that the film feels like a solid chunk of material might have been trimmed from the final cut.

Does Bob's have spoilers?

Also:

TBQH, I don't feel like the Thing costume looks too bad for its day.

The rest, though...

Watched it. Two extra scenes. Mid credits is important. End credits is just funny but not important.

Yes, it DID feel like a disaster movie. And same with the Chris Evans F4 and Michael B Jordan F4, there's really not a lot of super superheroics from Reed. And Ben's strength is again not too much use in cosmic level stuff.

Who's great is Johnny Storm. They did something amazing on him for me in the movie.

Who's awesome is Shalla Bal. I'm iffy on the... CGI expressions (unless it's really just make up?) but... she was awesome. The surfing was great, the character was cool. Would it have been as effective if it was Norrin Radd? Maaaaaybe? Maybe not? Well, will never know.

I'm expecting a bunch of memes about Sue using rainbow powers to do g-y stuff. It would be funny.

Still, there's some inherently stupid stuff with the planning. Like, Reed you idiot, you really could have planned the thing better. But they lampshade it that Reed isn't all that smart (love that scene). But if Reed wasn't smart at tactics, Ben (pilot so good with basic directions?) or Sue (given social mastery of human nature here of sorts) or Johnny (I dunno, maybe he's a gamer and knows game strategy?) could have supported him and caught his basic mistakes? Geez.

Also, absolutely ew in the middle. Like, why in heavens was this in the movie? Ew ew ew, totally gross yucky bleh! Haha

Friend said he was bored at the starting part but I loved it because of the positivity. I liked it so much that I hated the misstep Reed did (he's a bone head at times, to me. Sue should have done that part he did, the fool!)

Herbie was cool. Great mini villain showcase. Aesthetics of the throwback time was great. Music was epic sounding.

Oh, I didn't watch the trailers so I did NOT expect Thing's voice to be like that. I don't like it. This is not a gravelly Thing voice. No way. Then I absolutely hated what happened to him later on. No. Do not want. Go to the corner and hang your head in shame until you come clean.

Btw, can someone confirm that nobody in the movie called the family by their super hero names? No Mister Fantastic, no Invisible Woman, no Thing, no Human Torch? Nobody used the name Silver Surfer, of that, I'm pretty sure. But the other names?

My ranking of superhero movies of 2025 so far

Hey, I just realized that the title of this thread is First Flight, not First Steps.

Edit - saw this and figured with the timeline, best to put here
