Good for them. I'm surprised an EU country thinks it can ban such things though, as it's a requirement to not do so under EU law, I think?

It's Orban. He's been testing what the EU will let him get away with for awhile now. Garbage far-right authoritarian leader in the vein of Trump, Putin etc. Hungary will be better off once he's removed from office, hopefully after their elections next year.

Orban is one of those centre-right politicians who’s ended up hard-right (if not full far-right). He was centre-right during his first stint as Hungarian prime minister in 1998. His party Fidesz has also gradually moved its European affiliation, from ELDR (liberals) to the EPP (centre-right) to its current position with the so-called Patriots for Europe (the new far-right bloc).

That's the thing, especially with small town mentality. They are convinced, absolutely 100% convinced that everyone thinks like they do. They're the majority in their minds. And it blows their minds when they're confronted with evidence that they're in the minority. And instead of realizing this, perhaps examining their thinking, they make up excuses and bullshit to try and justify themselves and still remain convinced that they're the majority.

I've always assumed that dating "apps" are in fact already services piggybacking on the trendiness of Being An App just like all the big-name social networks do. Am I wrong?

Trump’s FTC is spreading lies about trans people. This bill would let it wipe them off the internet.

"...Last week, the FTC hosted a “workshop” with the unambiguous goal of spreading disinformation about one of the administration’s favorite targets: trans people. The event, which was titled The Dangers of “Gender-Affirming Care” for Minors, brought in a group of professional anti-LGBTQ+ bigots to air conspiracy theories and medical disinformation about trans people, with the stated mission of eliminating gender-affirming care for trans youth. Instead of doing the FTC’s actual job—protecting Americans from the excess of Big Tech companies—the workshop participants instead spent hours discussing disproven anti-trans talking points that the right continues to present as fact.

Participants called for the FTC to investigate medical providers who offer gender-affirming care to minors, under the claim that these doctors are engaged in “unfair or deceptive business practices.” Not only would this intrusion clearly overstep the FTC’s authority, it also illustrates how Trump’s FTC would weaponize proposed internet censorship laws like the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA) to target queer and trans people and their medical providers..."

The bill is bad, assuming it actually passes and it doesn't get torn to shreds by the courts., but I have a feeling the smaller sites will just move from being hosted in the US to more LGBTQ+ friendly countries. The porn industry on it's own has a pretty good history of defeating laws like this using the courts on first amendment grounds anyway, combine it with the ACLU and various LGBTQ+ organizations and they will have quite a fight on their hands if they try to implement it.
