Climate change (because it's still political for some reason)

I'm serious, if they brought back Captain Planet now, completely unchanged, everyone would say that Hoggish Greedly and Looten Plunder are based on Republican politicians.
The producers would say that Hoggish and Looten are cartoon villains and need to be more exaggerated than the people they're satirizing.

There’s been a bit of online ‘discourse’ on BlueSky over the last few weeks, with Americans sorta berating us in UK and Europe about the lack of domestic air conditioning in our gaffs. Tl;dr, it wasn’t really needed until recently, as 30C+ daytime temperatures were so uncommon. (My experiences, until the last 3 weeks, I’ve never experienced consecutive days of 30C heat. Let alone on/off 30C+ for several weeks.)

Kinda feels like people berating Texas and Florida for not having snow removal infrastructure. (As opposed to all of the other things to berate those states over.)

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

No, it pretty much is. But it's also no different than my local market for AC units selling out in late june because forgot that summer is hot in montreal. People are generally just... strung out and reacting, with no time or energy for forethought.

We don't plan for winter at all. Our winter fashion style was once dubbed by a local newspaper as the "improvised refugee" look.

I mean, it's not like we haven't been warned for decades that this is coming. But surprise, surprise! - Nobody paid attention! I hope people realize this is the new normal and they need to prepare accordingly for the future.

It's not that nobody paid attention. It's that the companies responsible for climate change paid a lot of money to bury all of the information.

Ideally the shortage of heating oil caused by Russian sanctions should have been a wake-up call to replace their oil-burning furnaces with heat pumps, which would have doubled as central air conditioning. Unfortunately most European homes are a gazillion years old and use radiators instead of forced air, which makes them poorly suited for that kind of retrofit.

We swapped our old oil burner for an electric water heater than integrated into the radiators perfectly.

It's still ludicrously energy inefficient, and I advocated for the much more initially expensive baseboard heater...

True. I mean, we have gas boilers for heating here in the UK, and even then heat pumps are expensive, and personally I l wouldn’t know if I could or would get planning permission to install one in my little hovel, despite being a mortgage payer (long story, UK property laws, etc). Same issues with installing solar panels.

The sky's been very orange and ominous here in RI for the last couple of days. Just looked it up, there's a wildfire in Canada and Minnesota and the smoke is blowing my way. Fun.

I couldn't decide which response was better, so here's both of them.

Another day, another wave of badly needed rain that's headed my way gets violently sheared apart at the last second by something that is not in the weather models. We broke it.
