Found Shockwave today. Local Walmart had lots of him and Skywarp. Now I’m not upset about missing the Siege or whatever version it was of him. This version is great.

So I finally put together devastator...

Whoa.

Just... Whoa.
I know the feeling. The same thing happened to me when I first put him together.

But then I noticed one thing that really irks me. Not enough to completely ruin the figure, but once I noticed it I couldn't unnotice it: His winged chestplate is way too low on his torso. The top of the chestplate's center ought to reach evenly with the top of his chest. But it sits too low instead, and there's no way to attach it higher since the tabs the wing tips attach to keep it in place where it is. And where it is is simply too low on the torso.

It's like if Superman's S-shield was positioned too low on his chest. Once you see it, you can't unsee it.

My Devastator is sitting on top of my bookcase between Haslab Victory Saber and Deathsaurus with the other Victory figures that have come out over the last couple of years. He's a little out of place, but he looks to nice to put in the storage box. Hopefully in the next week or two he is forced to move once Liokaiser shows up.

He's keeping the spot warm.

I get the impression some of you have never really looked at Devastator before. The chestplate has almost always sat low. In case anyone didn't realize it, the whole point of the chestplate was to hide the non-existant connection between Hook and Long Haul. Without it, it becomes plainly obvious that Hook is just kinda floating above Long Haul, and there's no continuity between the narrow Long Haul stomach and the double-wide Hook chest. Seriously, just look at the original toy:

The cartoon model:

SS86 for comparison:

It's still doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing: smoothing the transition between Hook and Long Haul to make the whole torso more cohesive. If anything, I think what throws the look off a bit is that he normally has his shoulders sitting way up above his chest. It's at the most extreme on Scavenger on the G1 toy, but the cartoon model had them up there quite a bit too.

CW did move the chestplate up a bit, largely due to Long Haul being so much larger there than in other versions. He's so big that the transition with Hook moves up on the torso, and so the chest plate moves up with it. But generally, it's really not very high up.

I'm split on the color. In person, it's very close to the G1 toy. Or at least the Encore toy. I recall them being basically the same, but I haven't seen my very well-loved (i.e. mostly-disintegrated) 1985 toy in years, so I can't verify that now. It's not a perfect match, but it's very, very close. However, this is SS86. With it otherwise sticking so close to the cartoon model, using the toy colors feels a bit odd. Also, while I absolutely love the G1 toy, I just prefer the slightly darker green used on CW.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

My problem is that the chest piece isn't straight, and because of the pin to hold it to long hauls trailer: trying to pop off the chest anyway.

But they got so much else not only right, so well engineered I am willing to overlook that little bit. Though I must admit this is the first figure I'm tempted to get an after market kit for. He's already so damn close to perfect that I'd feel silly for not doing it.

Starscream and Prowl being Target exclusives is definitely gonna piss some folks off...

Happy to finally get Prowl though, I missed all the Siege/Earthrise ones and don't think I've had one since 2008. Except, dangit, he still has Bluestreak's head doesn't he?

Starscream looks sharp.

I might even pick up the Insecticons too since they're in a nice convenient 3-pack.
