Honestly, this is how I see ALL the framejob combiners.

Yeah, the only one I've bought is Menasor, but for him it actually is cartoon accurate and I didn't already have the CW version. For the other combiners, I'm fine with sticking with the Combiner Wars versions. But now I am pretty seriously considering buying Silverbolt just to be able to use him with Nexus as Courageous. Unless someone out there only wants Silverbolt for his individual mode and doesn't want his "trailer" at all and is willing to sell it.

Just thinking about Nexus Prime, and I know I already made this comparison to the stock robot mode, but then I started thinking about what Nexus looked like in the moslty white and red Superion frame and how close it aligned to Gobots Courageous, and realized that I would definitely buy a Toyhax sticker set to complete the look. It wouldn't take much, some red for the boots and a few other bits to make the empty frame look more like Power Suits and it'd be a reasonable update. Bonus points if they work with Nonnef to add some "windshields" or whatever you want to call them to one arm and one leg.

Filling out the limbs wouldn't be hard either:
Turbo and Baron Von Joy can be derived from Stunticons, and the Aerialbots already have F-15 and F-16 designs for Leader 1 and Sky Knight. Actually might make for a nice little capsule, even.

I don't think the Stunticons can connect to the Superion frame though, right?

Maybe instead of continuously trying to make hasbro bite on a whole capsule, maybe pepper a few pieces through the mainline or some retail sets?

Like how G2 Sideswipe, Leadfoot, and Jhiaxus came out in Siege/Legacy then followed up with the Toxitron collection later?

So give ER Mirage a rerelease in MW colors (not being able to mount the launcher on the shoulder will make sense in this context) in the AotP follow-up, put a yellow ER Hoist in one of those Terget 4-packs and now the engine is primed for a new capsule since "There's already toys in-theme released"

(Though I dread MW Hubcap/Hoist is going to be a recolor of the Towline tooled Scraphook as I don't like that mold. Worse if we get another Laser Prime "Because the box art...")

That was always going to be my vote (except with a Scraphook/Tow-Line instead of ER Hoist base) to get everyone out. It's a small line but the capsules tend to be small too, and favor the lower price points/avoid mold repetition within the capsule. The capsule is just for getting a bunch done quickly in one go.

I think the Toxitron collection is for the cancelled G2 decos, so the better pairing with that is the upcoming Sludge/Swoop rather than the other G2 releases listed. But otherwise I get the idea and it applies. (In the realm of "cancelled G2" already released, there is the Selects Combat Hero Megatron as well).

Aside: TBH I wish they'd just make a new Mirage mold. It would be the third one, but maybe this time it'll be better. Especially if they stop flipping the what-becomes-what around for the front to just be the upper body and the rear to be legs.

I'd be all over anything Euro G1/G2... Predators, Turbomasters, Axelerators, Skyscorchers, Aquaspeeders/Stormtroopers/Color Changers, the Obliterator duo, whatever the heck Trakkons are... gimme it all.

I like the molds but MW is actually pretty low on my list of decos (aside from Sandstorm). Like black is cool and all but I'd much rather have Painbow Skyquake or King Atlas over a MW Starscream.

Machine Wars was made specifically to pander to longtime fans, almost a decade before Classics came along. It is a milestone for this franchise even if it didn't amount to much at the time. It is absolutely worthy of some recognition today, if not a whole capsule line.

Even that aside, it's just a fascinating little niche. The Toxitron collection is similar, maybe elevated in the sense that they're all unreleased concept decos. But them being little pockets of unusualness is central to their charm and reason enough for me to want them both revisited. One down...

Ooh, looking at this kinda makes me wince a little... cringe, even.

Not the quality of the work or anything like that, I think the colors look neat, but like... I'm seeing the texture of the paint there, and I have a hard time imagining handling a toy like that. I know that sensation, from touching painted items that look like that, and I've never liked it. It's like imagining nails on a chalkboard, but for my fingertips.

Which is to say, as into the idea of customizing toys as I am, I don't think I could do it like that.

Am I alone on this?

I was kinda focusing on the "can the shoulder pads be trimmed off and it still look good" element of it, and this was a decent demo of that, rough paint work and all.

I agree that the paint execution is not as clean as I'd prefer, to the point where the texture also looks suspect. I've definitely been there, and it's one reason I gravitated toward spray-painting as soon as I tried it. But we all start somewhere.

The Walmart "Energon" Capsule sounds like it's a Generations tie in with Cyberworld's year two Rebrand "Energon Surge".

The New Optimus figures are Energon blue and the Megatron for year two is a black and purple drill tank.

Yeah, it's a bit disappointing (although there's every possibility of a fun surprise, especially with the Weaponizers. If THOSE are clear plastic weapons bases, ooooh). Especially given the previous Walmart capsules (Cybertron, Star Raiders, Toxitron) were pretty cool.

There are layers.

It was the first time Hasbro tried to pander to fans. We got a bunch of moulds that previously hadn't been released in North America released here.
And the decos were off the wall. Some of them dictated by gang moulding decisions, some by not properly adjusting sticker sheets to account for new deco choices, other times they just flat out put the wrong toy on the wrong card.

It was simultaneously the first time they'd do something that has now become common, and also a confluence of factors and choices that will never be made again because of how curated the brand is these days.

Not saying that I particularly need another grey Optimus Prime with olive green arms... but just that something like this happened and that we got the designs and decos we got... it's notable and worthy of recognition for how off kilter it is.

I've thought about how they could do MW with the current moulds available... however they do it, they need to work in a KB Toys reference somehow. That's an intrinsic part of it.

In a previous post to when he posted the listings. Jtprime did alluded to the modulators being clear plastic.

I had a shitty week and missed toyfair so here’s some hints for things I’ve seen recently. More to come soon. ;)

Modular clear plastic, fun.

A previous con exclusive is getting an update. Yippee

selects multipack part 2 electric boogaloo but this time 3 is the magic number.

Well, that's nifty.

Also, I'm glad it's Six-Gun and Slammer, but now I'm wondering if the Armorizers would look good in clear plastic too...

Yes they would. AND I'm still waiting on Fossilizer Wingfinger to get a remold/repaint (I may be waiting a while)
