Probably thought the franchise was still for kids, geez. Too bad.

That sucks. This was the one big think in coming down the line that I was really looking forward to.

Understandable, I guess. But at the same time, do they have any idea how much money the Last Ronin comic has brought in. By now, people should know that TMNT is not, and never has been, completely a kids franchise.

I guess at least that's a bit hopeful. But I can't help but feel that's just some comforting platitude they threw out to offer hope while not really intending to follow through.

Why do they keep giving big projects to people who don't understand the source material and don't care?
Stuffy corporate suit: "We've got to appeal to the masses rather than the nerds. The masses (who don't know and don't care about the source material) are where the real money's at."

Understandable, I guess. But at the same time, do they have any idea how much money the Last Ronin comic has brought in.
Stuffy corporate suit: "Pshah! Only dweebs, losers, and children still read comic books these days. Comics are not high art."

By now, people should know that TMNT is not, and never has been, completely a kids franchise.
Stuffy corporate suit: "Ha! The 1980s cartoon (which to my superiorily narrow-minded, limited brain is the one and only true version of TMNT that actually matters) says otherwise!"

You see, and as much as I've written in my life, I'm so glad I've never been published. As much as I'd love for something I created to be well known and embraced, I would die if I ever saw it get twisted by corporations into something it was never meant to be.

Sometimes it pans out. The Turtles of Grayskull Krang is still the best version of that character (my opinion) in toy form, as I think it makes a much better 'Alien Warlord Body' than the usual pinhead with stubby arms. And I'm pretty sure the original artists never thought a He-Man crossover was in the cards.

Still, if we need Ninja Turtles characters with enough live violence to be rated R, we don't need a professional director anyway. Heck, I can do that at home...

As long as the following continues to come to mind first for the average person when thinking about TMNT, it will always be seen as for children first and foremost, unfortunately:

The 80s cartoon was far too iconic and impactful for pretty much any other version to overshadow it, no matter how much better any other version may genuinely be.

You have to imagine with distance and fewer people who grew up with it in any sort of decision-making power that it would shift...

Maybe it'll just be a bit longer before kids who grew up with 2K3 are those people?

I mean, in terms of fans who grew up with the cartoons, they're probably the most likely.

Well, them or 2012, I guess.

But despite that label on the tin, 2K3 got dark.

Which they could only do because Shedder was a robot* and everyone knows robots are fair game for mutilation and thus approved for all ages. Just another in the long list of why their revolution will be brutal.

*yes I know they amalgamated Krang and Shredder, but its still a robot body.

They can't be bargained with. They can't be reasoned with. They don't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And they absolutely will not stop...ever...until you are dead!

I'll try and take that with the humor intended.
