Well, it's that time of year again.

But this time, we're voting on toys, toys, and more toys.

No fictional characters, no real-life people, just toys. How very... whelming. 😐

Yeah, this is the first year I don't care enough to vote.

-ZacWilliam, I mean I might still, but in previous years I would already have right away.

Yes. Every year since 2021.

2019 and 2020 were on SurveyMonkey.

Yeah that's incredibly boring. Especially these days, between the brand expanding, distribution, and prices going up, I bet few people are actually getting all the toys. I think I only got one or two toys out of each category.

And in case you're wondering, my SS choice was '86 Galvatron, because I do own that mold, and that color scheme makes me want to buy a third copy of the exact same mold for the first time ever, but I've so far resisted.

That SS86 Galvatron is so damn frustrating to me. I had already thrown down on Kingdom, Legacy, and Behold! iterations of the mold. Yes, the Behold! version's deco is very different and can stand apart from the others, but SS86 is what I would have preferred, had it been on offer initially. However, my issue is that I never really warmed up to the toy in any deco. The proportions are too wonky, the feet are terrible, and in robot mode, it just looks too "off" to me.

Galvatron deserves better, though, and I really wish they could have waited on SS86 and made a more elevated version, a la SS86 Megs or Optimus. Oh well 🤷‍♂️

That's probably still going to happen. I mean, before Soundwave Again I might have thought not, but who knows anymore. Even if this was Soundwave's entry into SS86, there's any number of workarounds for them to redo Galvatron despite already being done in SS86.

I'm just lucky that I managed to sell off Kingdom and Legacy (for a fraction of what I paid, sure) before this came around, so I was able to keep to three distinct color schemes (movie, II, Behold). If and when a substantial retool or outright new mold shows up and is better, I'll... Cross that bridge when we get there.

It feels a bit odd and sad that I've had to sit out so much of these lines and so barely have anyone to vote for on these lists. But then, a good chunk of these lists also haven't made it to retail yet, so who knows what's going to happen there.

I'd considered Galvatron, but went with KSI Widow. Highly doubt she'll win or even place among the slew of releases (a good bunch boosted by 86 movie nostalgia too). But I love a comparatively obscure offscreen concept creation getting some love, and this being a female movie con with a really nice altmode, a good transformation sequence, and an unusual color scheme and solid design makes it a great release all in all. (Be careful with the tiny tab on the rear windows, it breaks easily. Maybe line/fold everything up first before pegging the rear halves together.)

For AOTP I went with Micronus. Bit awkward and maybe it shouldn't count as my order hasn't arrived yet, but the amount of stuff they wrung out of that price point has me very excited for it. The vast majority of AOTP I either don't have yet or won't be getting (until if and when something changes significantly in the future), so there weren't many choices for me here. Outside the combiners it's just been... Wasp? Even Sky-Byte is a later-on plan.

Exclusives, well, that's all Excellion. The new Hot Shot mold is so well done it has me tempted to get it AS Hot Shot. It takes some getting used to how weirdly narrow his torso is (the original had a front plate that extended past the arms, but maybe they had to keep the torso thin enough for the wheels to roll), and that face headsculpt is somewhat unpleasantly like the show (flat, curving up to meet the nose and mouth) rather than the toy (contoured like a face). But it gets everything else right and is just a nice, dynamic mold in a well-executed color scheme. It's also a better value for money than, say, the Nemesis Prime with Star Saber set, which I'm also looking forward to but dreading the cost of.

That was tempting, as I feel somewhat pleasantly surprised by how satisfying Star Convoy turned out to be. But I keep going back to how that doesn't mean it really needed to be more than a Commander class set.

Still, I can totally see it being a strong contender here.
